Nothing we didn't already know, but it does sort of cement the reality of it.

If only there had been anyone who had known. Anyone who said "everything Reebok touches turns to shit." Anyone who warned that it would turn into a giant shitshow and the affiliates would be the ones to get fucked.
Oh, that's right. It was us. And we did.

Today I am sitting back and marveling at the monstrosity that @F has become. 5 years before Glassman put CF.com on the web, there was too little internet. 5 years after, there was too much internet. CF came about via a perfect storm and GG rode that wave like some kind of zen surfing master into wealth and influence. It wouldn't happen today.
Of course, it's critical mass it too big right now to fail.

Just saw that the Scam of Fitness has a RBK box set up at the Superbowl. Noticed in the background outside the Dan Patrick show area.

Re: The couch thread
The arrogance of this statement is astounding. Could @fit get a few of the cost conscious members away from a Bally's, et al ? Probably, but how long would would they last. I think the author has forgotten the explosion in Planet Fatness, Retro Fitness, and other new large franchises that are truly driving the prices down. We, the CrossFit affiliates and CrossFitters are affecting the fitness economy.I spent many years in large corporation big boxes as a personal trainer, Fitness Director and Club Manager. (Bally's, 24 Hour Fitness, etc) Until recently, and recently being the past 3 years, the big boxes always increased their rates in January. They never offer specials or discounted rates in January. There wasn't any reason. It's New Years and the consumers and their resolutions are going to be coming in the door in droves! We hired a few extra sales councilors and we sold memberships and training like crazy. Management raised my PT budget every January. It's January, people are going to walk in the door and they will pay high retail plus enrollment fee, plus processing fee. Now it is 2012, there are 2 Crossfit affilites in the community taking memebrs from the 2 local big boxes and the big boxes have discounted their monthly dues down to $19.95! They have placed sandwich boards on the curb advertising "NO ENROLLMENT FEE". ALL of the big boxes in the 2 counties we operate in are discounting rates in January. That was totally unheard of 3-4 years ago. What happened? CrossFit and its effect on the market place. The big boxes are watching their membership base erode, losing members to CrossFit, kettlebell studios, etc.
A local chain/franchise is not going to drop their prices from $29.95 per month to $19.95 to compete with $150-$200/month @fit.
In a 1.5 mile stretch of highway here, there is an independent high end commercial gym (that is still $100 cheaper per month than any local @fit), a Synergy, a new Retro Fitness, Bally's, a new Planet Fatness and a @fit. The @fit is doing ok serving the niche market but the parking lots are full at Retro and PF to the detriment of the other gyms.

Re: The couch thread
My observation is @fit is leaking into other gyms, and not in a good way. Maybe it is the injuries, the cost, or the need to stay up with the newest board short and footwear fashion trends. Whatever it is i was stuck in a snap fitness last week in the hinterlands. Was able to muck my way through the curl rack with the 8 inch seperation between fixed pin heights, folks doing db presses off a cheap yoga balls, and the like. What is a growing problem is the @fit refugee doing treadmill walking with a weight vest, plyos onto aerobic boxes (Reebok circle of life...?), and the vibrams douche with his headphones cord trailing him as he does 135 full squat cleans and pullups supersetted inside the cable crossover area.

Just because Lululemon has a yoga studio in some of their stores that's no Proof Of Concept that you can float a gym on nothing but apparel sales.
And Shaf, unless Couch has been writing big checks to Obama's reelection fund in no way is @fit "Too Big To Fail." when the Bok realizes that they fucked up the whole thing will be swept under the rug faster than you can say "Stepaerobics."

Just take one look at www.Reebok.com now. They are absolutely betting all of their chips on @F. Adidas must have told them that they get one more chance, sink or swim, if you don't make it, buh-bye!Cave Canem wrote:RBK must be all in on this.

Handled well @Fit + Reebok could be fucking gigantic.
The thesis of @Fit's existence is that it makes faggots feel good about themselves.
And we all know there is A LOT of faggots in this world.

Re: The couch thread
The problem with the big commercial gyms? They don't get results. Not even if you pay the douchbag trainers for their best babysitting skills do you get great results.
Crossfit provides the sense of community support that does. Other small fitness studios that build that sense of community do as well, so, yeah, people who want results are seeing people doing Crossfit and going to small studios get results, and are not seeing the Planet Fitness crowd, etc, getting results.
The fact is that Crossfit, the random dumbass WOD, is better than shit most personal trainer dipshits think up.

Re: The couch thread
Does Couch get a taste of all the apparel sales, a licensing fee, or what? Since money flows to him like water down a river, he must be getting exceptionally well rewarded. What a duck says wrote:Just take one look at http://www.Reebok.com now. Interestingly, @BOKFit ONE is a purely USA phenomenon. Sport Chek, Canada's largest sporting goods retailer has never heard of it.
Good news for all my friends who own Canadian @fit Affiliates, I suppose.

I'm not going to post the link to the Gaymes site where this video resides, but this would seem to be how @FHQ will manage to make their share while @Bok makes their money on the clothes:
Outlaw CrossFit's Rudy Nielsen wants 90 percent of his membership to participate in the Open.
