Re: Deload weeks

What level are you performing at? If you're not elite, the difference between 40, 60 or 80% on your deload week probably doesn't make much of a difference.

Do a little, and if you don't feel recovered the following week do a little less next time.

Re: How to train yourself

If you can do 3 sets of 8 after five weeks with a weight you were using for triples, it was likely too light to get much of a training effect out of triples.

Interestingly that's the one difference between how I do them and the video does them. I consciously pause at the top and squeeze my glutes.

Re: Glute Thrusts

I've never felt my glutes actually working in any exercise. Whether they'll help the lifts or not, the sad reality is that there's no muscle in my glutes. If you touch them durin a set of squats they're soft. I'm hoping to (a) build some glutes purely for the sake of building glutes, and (b) learn w...

Glute Thrusts

I've started doing glute thrusts in training, but I've noticed something interesting. If I start with the barbell on the floor, firstly, it's incredibly uncomfortable. And not the "man up" kind of uncomfortable, but the uncomfortable where anything over 315 really bruises my hips. Secondly, if I sta...

Re: What's volume training?

Smet, with all due respect look at the weights at the start of your journal (1.5 years ago) and the weights used now. The intensity/volume is roughly the same. My view is that your aversion to any sort of effort involving heavy weight will forever impinge any muscle gain. Look up the IPF female reco...

Re: Reverse grip bench press

I used a football bar tonight on the bench for the first time. Really friendly on the shoulders and hits the triceps and chest pretty hard with less weight than regular bench. A lot of work to stabilise. Would definitely recommend trying that instead of reverse grip if you have access to one.

Re: Reverse grip bench press

I tried these the other day. Worked up to 275 for a couple of reps but racked it because (a) I was terrified of dropping the bar on my face and (b) it's tough on my wrists.

Re: What's volume training?

The key smet is not "how much is hugh volume for THIS session or THIS cycle". It's all related to past and future performance. If you do 10x10 this session, where are you going to go next session and the session after and a decade from now? How are you going to cycle that training so you can improve...

Re: What's volume training?

Call it the number of sets multiplied by the number of reps multiplied by the weight used above say 70% for strength and perhaps 60% for hypertrophy. That's your volume per session. Add together all the sessions in a cycle and that's your overall tonnage. Did you do more overall tonnage this cycle t...
