Re: District 9
I loved this movie! The combat scenes blew away anything in Tranformers or the new Terminator film. Good for the Boers.
The lead actor was really good in it as well. He basically had to carry the whole film, and took his character from super-nerd to Rambo nicely.

Great show. Now I almost forgive Tarantino for Death Proof.
Actually Death Proof is a nice little 20 minute movie if you only watch the parts with Kurt Russell.

Re: High West Rendezvous Rye Whiskey
http://www.drinkupny.com/v/vspfiles/photos/S0549-2T.jpg I laid out a hundred bucks for a 21 yr old bottle of the Hirsch Rye Whiskey a few years ago. I haven't opened it yet so the review will have to wait. I'm all about quality over quantity when it comes to sipping whiskey. The 12 year old Canadia...

I loved this book when I was a kid. Its about a young Indian who finds himself at the battle of Ticonderoga in 1758. You can pick it up on amazon for a penny. http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/2646/fawn.jpg Ticonderoga is one of the best forts to visit in North America IMO. (Skip William Henry thou...

Re: Heinlein's Juvenile Books
I read most of those when I was a young'un. Tunnel in the Sky was my favorite.
I got a set of those as a gift for my nephew when he turned 13. Being a good American lad, I don't think he even opened them.

I caught it on the big screen a few years back with a live piano accompaniment. A good time was had by all.

Gummo is a fucking masterpiece! One reviewer said, "The scene in Gummo where the fat redneck smashes the chair is more terrifying than anything in the Exorcist."

I showed Grey Gardens to my mom a few years ago. She said, "This is very difficult to watch." I replied, "Exactly." Crumb was great. Poor Charles. Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi, and Baraka are also great films to see if you don't get out much. Touching the Void if you are into mounta...

Yes, Tyson was a great new one, and Fog of War is worth it just for the LeMay stories. "You lost your wingman, but we destroyed Tokyo." I forgot to add Alone in the Wild. Even though I own the dvd, I still stop and watch it like a deer on headlights when it comes on TV. http://www.dickproe...

Good documentaries
This was asked on another thread so here are some of my favorites in no particular order. (Add your own.) -Salesman, a forty year old film about bible salesmen by the Maysles brothers. Watch a man's career grind to a halt. -Dark Days, about people living under the subways in New York. This kind of p...

Re: Ken Burns' "National Parks" series
Burns has been going downhill since his failure with The War. Wow. First negative thing I've EVER heard about The War. I loved it so much I watched ever ep multiple times on the ol' DVR before just buying the box set. I watch more documentaries than any healthy American should and The War is #1 on ...

Shit Andy, you mean you didn't like the one where MoD wanted D-Ops to ask 'c' for permission to use the SBS to ensure that the GRU wasn't spying on HMG via a leak in JIB caused by the DGI being compromised? Can't stand the faggot Limey talk.

Thanks for recommending this JJ. I'm on the last disc of season three and I'm really bummed that its almost over. Hands down this has to be the best spy show ever on tv. A good example of how great writing and acting can overcome a low budget. http://www.eurocriticsmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/20...

What got to me about the professional Scrabble players is that they dedicate their lives to the game (memorizing the entire dictionary etc...) and there is almost NO money in it. If you win the Poker World Series thats like $10 million. If you become the World Chess Champion its around $4 million. W...
