Looking for a new knife

I'm no Tom Furman, but I've got a fair amount of know-how with a blade and carry a knife both for my mad MacGyver skills and for protection.

I'm looking for a new knife that I can legally carry, which pretty much only means folders here in California. Dirks, daggers, ballisongs, switch etc are big no-nos out here. Price isn't really much of an issue, but let's not get too crazy here.

Thanks for any recommendations.

What are your blade length limitations?

Looking forward to the answers here. I wouldn't mind having a blade to throw in my pocket for commuting around the city.

Benchmade Griptilian or Mini-Griptilian. Great handle/size and the Axis lock is secure and works well one-handed.

As far as I know, there aren't really any, but the laws here are weird.

Basically a pocket knife.

I'm mostly concerned with quality and making sure I'm not breaking any laws just by carrying the damn thing.

This Benchmade Mel Pardue has been a great knife. It was given to me by a good friend who used and abused it. Since then I have done the same and it still is a solid knife that will hold an edge.

I recently got this and I really dig it.

I really like Ed Schempp's designs. A friend of mine hung out with him recently and said he was a cool humble nice dude...Old farmboy who has been messing around with forging metal and building knives since he was a kid.

Spyderco has some really nice and small knives....
I have had my hands on this design also:

I dig it for a really small but still quite usable knife. I don't have fat fingers though.

That Spyderco Khukuri (the second one), is in line with what I've been thinking. I think.

For carry, get a cheap Cold Steel lockblade and put an edge on it, so you can drop/lose it without a second thought if need be.

The solution to all of this is to move to Mississippi...not only would I make a great neighbor, but gun ownership is pretty much mandatory. Knife...heh.

I carry a Spyderco Endura with a wave. I open wine bottle wrappers with it mainly.
I bought a Hissatsu Folder from James Williams. I like that blade. It's from CRKT.

I'm liking Mantis Knives too.

Of course a fixed blade is a thousand times better. You won't be doing any Raid:Redemption fight scenes with it.. but a good folder can cut seat belts and is just a nice tool.

Thanks gents.

I've been looking in the Spyderco direction for a while.

Kaz,
If it were up to me, and permits were easier to get, I'd carry. It is quite difficult to get one out here.

Planning on finally taking my tour to see where I may (hopefully) move in the next year or so. Concealed carry friendly states are on the list.

I shipped a Ka-Bar folding Zombie killer over to Hawaii last spring for just in case. I liked it so much I shipped it back.

This is so coincidental-

I was in the bathroom at the office today. The toilets are hooked up to those infa red automatic flusher devices. So I'm finishing up, and I'm tucking my shirt in and stuff, and somehow my hand knocked my Dragonfly out of my pocket -it was clipped to the change pocket- and the fucker flew out and landed in the toilet soon as the damn infa red auto flusher activated and blew it down the tubes like a fucking jet engine.

I LOL'd. Then I frowned.

I'm gonna get a Kershaw I think.

BUT....check this bad boy out. Don't know if it is legal, but who cares! You put this baby on and no one is calling the cops.

I think that a small knife/multitool/flashlight/firearm that will actually be carried is a better choice than a bigger knife/multitool/flashlight/firearm that stays at home, or in a backpack, or in the car, because it's too big, too heavy, takes up too much space in the pocket, etc.

I like knives like the Spyderco Delica, Dragonfly, URBAN (discontinued, I think you can still find 'em), and Persistence. For BM, the only small one I have a mini Griptilian with a thumb hole, and it's pretty okay.
