I ❤︎ Oligarchs

According to this article in the Daily Beast Bezos and his buddies are ready to eat the world.
“We must make our choice. We may have democracy, or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can’t have both.” —Justice Louis Brandeis

With his $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos has made clear his determination to dominate every facet of mass retailing, likely at the cost of massive layoffs in the $800 billion supermarket sector.
But this, if anything, understates the ambitions of America’s new ruling class, almost entirely based in San Francisco and Seattle, as it moves to take over industries from entertainment and transportation to energy and space exploration that once thrived and competed outside the reach of the oligarchy.
According to the LA Times another tech zillionaire may run for governor of CA.

In a way it helps explain why Trump took the votes of so many working class Dems. Poses an interesting time of change for Democrats. Are they still the party of the working class or have they become the party of the oligarchs and identity politics? (psssstttt, it's not the working people).

Much like the robber barons of a century ago, Musk, Schmidt, Zuckerberg, the Steyer brothers, Bezos & friends only have the best of intentions.

Funny you mention that.
Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, long the country’s most overtly progressive company, is now no longer progressive enough for progressives.

Over the weekend, “scores” of activists marched on Ben & Jerry’s Vermont factory, demanding that the company push for better wages and working conditions for migrant workers on Vermont’s dairy farms. Social justice warrior blogs excoriated the company for failing to live up to its own progressive rhetoric.

Apparently, two years ago, Ben & Jerry’s promised to take part in the “Milk With Dignity” program (weirdly, not “Dairy With Dignity,” which would have been catchier). The campaign asks major corporations that use milk in their food products to work to ensure migrant workers who help produce the milk are treated fairly.

But because Ben and Jerry are, at heart, dirty capitalists, they began negotiations with the organizations, to structure their commitment in such a way that it protected their bottom line. They also claimed to the Washington Post that they wanted to get real details on farm worker treatment from the migrants themselves, so that the agreement could be realistic.

I don't know about the others, but at least Musk has acknowledged that technology will soon put millions of people out of work and further concentrate wealth at the top. That's why he's in favor of the UBI.

The wife of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders attempted to evict 16 disabled residents from a group home facility when, as president of now-defunct Burlington College, she was trying to negotiate the multimillion-dollar acquisition of 33 acres of prime real estate and a building owned by the local Roman Catholic Diocese.

Judicial Watch obtained a letter from Jane Sanders to an attorney, Todd Centybear, who represented the group home at the time of the ill-fated transaction.

In the letter, Sanders expresses frustration that the disabled residents would not leave the premises.

“It is simply not fair to expect the College to continue to carry the burden of the expenses associated with housing both your population and ours until February 2012,” Jane Sanders wrote, according to Judicial Watch.

She is what Bernie says Trump is.

I got into so many arguments with Bernie Bro's last year, who were adamant that Bernie was a better candidate for the General than Hillary was. Bernie had never – has still never – been exposed to the full scrutiny of a national election, and never been exposed to the full force of the right-wing attack machine. That machine had been holding its fire, hoping that Bernie would be the nominee. He was vulnerable on a lot of fronts: Socialism, his dalliance with the Sandinista's, his weird sex writings in the 1970s; and this stuff with his wife and Burlington. And that's just the stuff that's TRUE.

Now, it turns out I was naive about a couple of important points regarding Hillary as a candidate. But that doesn't mean there isn't a ton of un-aired smearable dirt on the Bern.

bernie remains a '60s leftist. he's a sanctimonious, former kinda-hippie and secular jew who had a couple of wives and who liked the sandinistas back in the day. big fucking deal.

hillary did the opposition research. people were crawling through the archives at the univ of vt during the primary. there's no there there.

if 2020 is a battle of who evicted whom, i like bernie's chances vs. donald. that's not going to be the narrative.

A guy whose wife picks on the disabled isn't gonna make it out of the primary; I don't know much about the Vermont electorate, but this might be enough to cost him his Senate seat.

the jane sanders fan club is not large, but the thing that seems to have got some bernie people pissed is his unexpected millionaire status (royalties from his book) and his new lakefront vacation home.

it's possible that jane's imitation of a capitalist will hurt bernie some, bit i have a hard time seeing a republican taking his seat.

if this moment of modest pain for bernie gets you hard, i don't want to spoil your fun. wank away.

How exactly does one become an oligarch? Asking for a friend.

PL54's Go Ask Alice reference made me chuckle. Well played.

I thought the original Ben and Jerry sold out to some corporation years ago.
