I love the idea of a man so committed he would bite the finger off a bitch.

Is there another video where he teaches her Downward Facing Doggystyle?

I really wonder if he was going for the reality porn vibe, or if that was just a brilliant accident because he looks like the kind of guy whose VCR blinks "12:00" all the time.

No offense taken at all, BD. I know you were being legit.

If you mean following the programs as written out respectively, yes I do, normally. As I said earlier, I do plan on getting back to the weights after soccer season is over. It's been a long while since I've really lifted iron.

I agree with everything bolded. I just lack two very important things to achieve this; Money and time. haha! What money and time I do have goes into riding my mtn bike and upgrading my mtn bike. Ha!

Thanks, btw.
Blaidd Drwg wrote:Shaf is pretty much on the money. Take no offense, Mick, my question was legit. Of all the people I know, I'd say you are the most disciplined generalist... So I presumed you might actually do the work as laid out. I'd be surpised if it worked for you long temr...but maybe it does. Otoh I think a lot of people see stuff like Ross and Maxwell's programs and see them as idea books...akin to reading Dwell mag and then hacking out a midmod referential toolshed of questionable integrity.

And I also grok that like many of the soft gurus, SteveM, Pavel , DJ, etc are all "nice guys"...very sharp and capable in their sphere....which is why I reserve the most brutal critiques for them. Astrology? Instability training? The WTH effect? Neighbor please.... Go fuck yourself you should know better. Get that shit out of that pie.

Mick....

As an aside, the way to get better at that MTB is not contained in an ebook. It's dressing like a two-bit lycra super hero and riding a road bike. ALOT. Like triple whatever feels reasonable and then do deadlifts and practice flatland skills and learn to hit triple jumps. But then I'm all about the deep stab, not the thousand cuts approach

Once again, you myopically miss what Mickey wants. He wants to enjoy riding on trails, probably the solitude and the environment do more for him than any amount of road riding will. He doesn't want to compete in single track or downhill competitions. He wants to go out, do some trail riding, have fun, and crack a beer sitting on the back of his Tacoma in the shade watching the pretty girls go by.

This makes his soul sing.

Much like how being 8 months into the crucible of suck and having a breakthrough makes your soul sing, or kick a kitten, or whatever it is your soul does, if you even have one.

Yeah, this pretty much covers it. I do want to be the best recreational rider I can be though. I have thought about entering some enduro type races but I just don't have the time to put in the miles for training.

It's true though, almost nothing makes me happier than being out in the woods riding singletrack then drinking some cold beer and looking at/talking smack to some hot chicks.

LOL to that last sentence.

Happiness ?

A Jedi craves not these things.

(Becoming The "best" recreational rider is a contradiction in terms, you already are the best rec. rider that YOU can be)

Steve Maxwell never disappoints.
Dude is nutty as a fruitcake and is getting more and more honest about his nuttiness as time goes on.
His defense of astrology had me grinning ear to ear. I love an unapologetic wacko!

One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

I've given this a lot of thought. I don't buy that it's self hate. It's pure desire and hubris...

Mickey's got that, he's got the requisite amount of narcissism he just doesn't have the willingness to sacrifice on big thing for another big thing. He's frugal with his self delusions confining them to shirtless selfies and muddy Sunday's on a MTB. nothing wrong with that....it's good livin...But I no longer accept this narrative that being willing to do more of what's necessary is a character flaw. At least no more of a flaw than low expectations.

Yeah a lot of us have a black dog following us around, doing something about it is not bad... It's good.

It's not a character flaw. But neither is saying "Fuck it, I'm good."

Drive, desire....the flip side of apathy.

It just so happens that I filled out my Intro section on FB this morning..."Aggressive Mediocrity". I guess that is a good description. Hahaha! The thing is, I'm extremely competitive.

Trust me, as much as I bristle at the underlying (why try? what will you feel like in 20 years?) narrative of this place, I truly admire and always have admired guys like Mick who could just let that shit go have fun and then hit the pool. I'm obviously not special athletically...but I HAVE TO push all the levers and turn all the dials and then retreat the to safety of my people. Even in the hardest pushes I can recall my two biggest joys are A) sitting with that fear you have right before you do the really hard thing and B) the getting home after, drinking a beer in the shower and laying corpse like while the wife and kids and dogs do their evening routine. That's about as balanced as I can get it.

Because I love it and I want to be as good as I can possibly be given my time constraints.
