Goals for 2015.

Post by Blaidd Drwg » Mon Jan 04, 2016 7:24 pm

Who here hit their "yearly goals" ?

Then we can compare to the 2016 thread for reference.

*finish tech school and get back home
*work on finishing RN degree and research grad degree
*actually hit MS numbers
*continue grappling
*actually work towards getting some stuff published
*get the wife pregnant
*finished and back home (CHECK)
*enrolled in RN program and actively taking classes (CHECK, sorta)
*I've come close, even hit it on one chart, but not what I want (FAIL)
*still rolling and have a comp later this month (CHECK)
*writing but nothing published (FAIL)
*we now have a gorgeous son (CHECK)

Not too shabby and I'm pretty happy with the way things are moving.

I had a nice PR in 2015 but did not succeed at main DL goal. Goal for 2016 is to keep inching forward.

Gym I'd like:
Press bw
Bench 1.5x bw
Squat 2x bw
Dead 2.5x bw

As well as seeing how far sub 22 minutes I can get my 5km run time

Other goals are to step away from rugby even further and run with my 4yo daughter whenever she wants (she is currently running 8-10 minutes, a couple of times a week and really enthusiastic about it)
Got the sexy lean goal, went down as far as 175lbs
Posted plenty of selfies on FB and Insta

Training was more minimal, but just as effective so I haven't pressed or pulled much, but did hit my bench and squat goals.

Didn't really try for the 5k goal, did more walking rather than running.

Have run with the two eldest girls when they wanted to, plus I take them both to tag rugby and have begun to help coaching the youngest's group (4 - 6 year olds)

Have stepped away from playing rugby as planned due to arrival of third daughter in October.
I'd say on the bottom of that self-actualisation pyramid shit, proper decent coffee is in there with wifi, tits, food and shelter

Pull 275. Bench 135. Throw 12' WOB. Break 60 feet on hammer.

Lose about five lbs of fluff.

Spend more time with my kids in outdoor play, ie, hiking, biking, playing sports, fishing, kayaking, etc.
Didnt get the pull or bench, but got a 205 squat which was a 2014 goal I think. Hit the throwing goals and actually lost about seventeen lbs over the summer. Gained ten back, but getting back on tgat plan.

My goal was to train more often than not ('train' being loosely defined as something somewhat resembling strength training, or something aerobic-like... stretching and walking the dog didn't count, for example, but doing push-ups or a few sets of squats did).

I ended up training about 210/365. Not bad. Not great, but not bad.

Jeez, I thought I had something in there. Anyhow, I said mid-yearish that I wanted to pull 600 and I did. Had some strong, strong help from the author of this thread, thankshimverymuch.

Last year's goals:

1. Reduce distracting internal thoughts that lower my performance ability. More meditation, a consistent diet and better sleep habits is the current plan.

Yes, via diet, meditation and, occasionally, attitude.

I want to continue to work on my attitude, I feel this is the largest obstacle.

2. Make more, spend less.

Made more, spent more.

Still struggling with impulse spending after receiving tax refunds, larger paychecks, etc.

3. Have better interactions with people - whether that requires being more direct, kind, attentive, etc.

Yes. Kinder, more patient, I let go of stuff more, less desire to have this or that. Attitude and working on the language I use are two key obstacles or areas of focus.

That's why Kirk's "run every single day, even if it's just a mile" is so fucking great.

210 training days + 365 walking the dog days is a nice achievement.

I merely pointed out the obvious. You did the work. Still grinning from watching that bar rip off the floor like nothing.

My goals were so mediocre I hit them without trying. On the plus side I love my new job.

davidc wrote:My goals:

1. Work out every morning.
2. Get weight below 215.
3. Take 5 family vacations (Got 5 on calendar now).
4. Keep doing well at my job.

Everything else is details.
1. Done
2. Done (dropped from 235 to 211 but busted 215 after Xmas; will be below 215 again by end of the week).
3. Done
4. Done

Had a little body weight gain over the holidays. Other than that I stayed the course. But I let some shitty self sabotage creep in over the course of the year. Enjoyed my second failure as an "athlete" in as many years. I just don't know if I have the mental toughness I used to. The only saving grace is I don't need it. I can focus on training for a specific goal with the true the intention of only shooting for 80% on comp day and as long as I can hit those numbers consistently I'm money.

I need to lower my shame level.

That's big. I still hold out hope I'll have a job I love one day.

Spotty record keeping and vague, lawyerly, goals made progress on my major goals impossible to gauge. That can be fixed.

My grappling was almost 100% injury free, enjoyable, and progress-filled. My Program Minimum morphed from weights to walking, with light KB swings thrown in.

This thread got me to change the way I set goals so that they are specific and accountable. I already see an improvement this January 2016.
