Any advice on knee sleeves?

Post by Old Mother » Sat Apr 23, 2016 4:18 am

I have had a pair of kono's that have lasted close to 8 years. They held up pretty well, but there's bunch of gouges in the material and quite honestly I'm getting tired of pulling the hairs out of my legs. If all knee sleeves are going to be like that then so be it, but rehbands look like they're pretty easy to get on and off and they don't seem to slide down too much, if at all.

So what do you like?

Currently loving the SBD sleeves. Last well and seem to have magic antibacterial sumpin goin on. I liked the konos too but they fell apart on me.

There's a lengthy thread on the elite fts ones which some people really like but they are way different

Get SBDs. They are without a doubt the best and most comfortable sleeves on the market.

I'm not a big fan of my STrong sleeves.

Am a Rehband fan but SBD and Kono are good too. i use Kono knee sleeves for my elbows.

So SBD's seem to be the thing to get. What about sizing? I'm looking for a warmth and slight compression. I don't need anything too heavy where the circulation is getting cut off. Should I just go with whatever my size is?

Thanks for the replies btw.

Some people try to go down a size. I found it pointless. Just order your size on the chart.

Elite sleeves are a motherfucker. I have the "single ply" and after dropping 45 pounds and a ton of size off my legs I can't leave them up between sets.

I got 2xl, and they were fucking small as shit. So I got 4xl, and they are too fucking big. I am not buying goddamn 3xls in the EliteFTS elastic bands. They turnover too much, and bunch up

I might try the SBDs though. The Konos are super sweaty, and hard to get on. The Rehband I had were great, but some fucking cunt stole my knee sleeves and a bottle of liniment out of my bag at the last PL meet I was at. I confronted him about it, and he lied to my face. I used to see him post on FB and I gave him shit continually about stealing my stuff until he blocked me.

In one of his FB pics you could see the fucking Rehbands sitting on the floor of his garage gym with "SHA" visible them.

And this was like 2005...Diprima had popped a pec. I think the story was that some buddy of his snagged the liniment and knee sleeves out of my bag because he thought they were his.

Anyway...long dead issue.

That story reminds me of an RPS meet from a few years ago; one of the PM spotters had lifted earlier and was frantically looking for his belt. I stopped him to say thanks for his spotting and his response was one of the weirdest things I have ever heard anyone say:

"Hey, how about thanks for my total?"

Then asked me if I knew where his belt was. Weird.

Anyhow...those SBD sleeves? Same pain in the ass to get on as the Konos?

easier than konos, they are lined inside and out...but a lot of USAPL people wear them so god damn tight that they need help putting them on...this is of course, stupid. If you follow the size chart they are snuggish but not as bad as the konos.

If you follow the size chart it'll take you 30s to put them on each leg for the first couple of weeks, and then they'll just slide right up, whilst still being as snug as necessary.

I like the Slingshot sleeves.

I also like the STrong sleeves.

I have had issues with the seams on the Slingshot sleeves, but the STrong sleeves have been incredibly durable.

I'll probably get a size-down for meets, rather than fuck around with wraps.

I already had real size SBDs so I got a size down STrong sleeves. They tend to really grind around on the nerves in my calves when I squat, and actually cause me a bit of pain.

I could see that happening, yeah. They do break in a fair amount, but, for me there's two things I think;

First, a size-down pair of STrong sleeves for competition with the clear understanding that they will only be rolled up for attempts, and not be worn between.

As far as training sleeves go, I am in a fair amount of pain (8 out of 10?), but the discomfort from sleeves is ultimately preferred over my joint issues.

I'm in an identical boat, although I can wear my SBDs (at true size) throughout an entire workout and they more than adequately quell my knee pain.

I've actually wanted to try the SBD's, for a while.
