Worth a go for sure... Now every time I look guys are hitting 17-18 with the masters weight doing side sling and a solid 15+ with the 56... One of my best events now appears middle of the pack..

Damn progress.

Before the forum goes down I should log back in and remind myself of the time G. Everett vehemently argued that steady state cardio doesn't work.....not even for endurance athletes.

Ahhh. yeah. Good times.

Oh yeah. This was in the context of me describing some of the methodologies I used for velodrome racing.

Wow.

Actually not that surprising - it seems like there are a lot of those pendulum BS issues that surface from time to time.... (cardio, stretching, plyos, diet, etc). I guess you just expect some people not to be so dense...

Everett always struck me as a guy who knows everything, all the time.

I can see why a lot of people dig him as a coach: super confident. But, it can be annoying, and very quickly.

Success, I suppose. It's not like there's tons of weightlifters and gyms in the US all competing at high levels, and Everett stands alone at the top.

My biggest gripe with most trainers or coaches is their inability to admit areas of limited knowledge.

Instead they have one area of expertise, but, feel fully qualified to comment about training for completely different sports.

It's tempting....when you know one thing deeply it's easy to pick up the basics of another thing...until you try to apply it in real time and it turns to shit.

Having gotten deep in the weeds as an endurance guy and a strength guy later, I can say without hesitation, having more cardio and more raw strength never hurt anyone.....but the process of getting that stamina or building that strength is nonlinear and simply trying to get a little more of either while practicing a real sport can super fuck your your skill work into next week. That's the universal..SKILLS ARE THE SHIT. Guys like Everett grok that in their own little microcosm but fail to extend that privilege to real sports in the real world.
