Colts Trading Bench Press for Turkish Get Ups

Post by Tirofijo » Sun Aug 07, 2016 12:03 pm

I follow Strongfirst, among others, on my junk FB account. This popped up.

http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/nf ... /87750490/

ANDERSON – It’s called a Turkish getup. And if you’ve never heard of it, then you and Indianapolis Colts defensive end Kendall Langford have something in common.

It looks rather ridiculous, this funky, multistep, kettle-bell exercise that you’ll likely never see performed at your local gym and certainly would not expect to see in an NFL weight room.

Yet this exercise and others like it have become workout staples for Langford and his teammates. The story of how that came to be, the Colts hope, will be one of the reasons they are both healthier and better prepared for 2016.

Under new strength and conditioning coach Darren Krein, the Colts are shaking up what had been an ultra-traditional aspect of their organization with a renewed approach to one of the most important off-field elements of football.

Krein may be a genius. His methodologies may be perfect. My issue is Strongfirst pointing to this article as validation.

1) If you read further in the article, you'll see they aren't ditching the powerlifts. (maybe de-emphasizing, but not trading them in.)

2) The NFL player is already as strong as a white faced bull. Krein is trying to get a few more years of playing time out of them. But the NFL player didn't get strong enough to play in the NFL by doing a hundred KB swings.

They're not going to see a Super Bowl game until they're doing pistols.
