Following the do...

Anyway, been on vacation over the past week, beach running, boogie boarding, even some kb work during a heat alert. Logging to resume tomorrow.

BW 233.4 - up due to poor diet on vacation, high salt road food, etc.
Biked to and from work - roughly 10 miles each way.

Judo tonight. Mat work for an hour, then some standing. Managed to snag an armlock off of one of our groundwork specialists, incurring no submission in return. As always, though, Virgil Sensei squashed me like a bug, ensuring humility.

Thurs Aug 16
BW 225
Oddly enough, dropping weight and not lifting for 2 weeks has resulted in a loss of limit strength.
BP 225#: 2. 205#: 4,4,3. Alt 2 min rest with
Chin ups, 4 sets of 4.
Narrow grip bench press: 135#: 7,8,7,5. Never tried these before, could definitely feel the asymmetry in my arms, doing them off the power rack with pins set a little higher.

Weekend of ER shifts. Joyous...
Saturday Aug 18
25 min on elliptical. Coming down with cold. Steam sauna, 8+ hours in ER.

Sun Aug 19:
Viral as all get out. Dropped the safety stops on my home squat rack by a notch, thought things felt different last time. Now back to ATG form, still going light on the weight, going more for a) getting back into it and b) more speed / explosiveness.
Squats 185: 4 sets of 6. Then 8 hours in ER.

Mon Aug 20: 9 hours in ER after a night of insomnia. No energy for anything else.

Judo. Ground work for an hour. Rolled with two heavyweight blackbelts one zippy, 170lb brown belt, and a 170 lb green belt with a lot of jits in his background. Things felt great, I hit several sneaky straight arm locks from attacks from the turtle. I was still too wheezy to work standing, but this stupid virus appears to be wearing down.

Not the greatest workout, but I am glad just to be doing something. Between work and insomnia and sick family coughing all night, most zombified.
Squats. Bar, 135, 185, then 225# 5 sets of 3.

Wed Sept 5
Hill run, 3ish miles. 8 hours in ER to follow. Been working like a bitch lately, feeling it in my lifts and cardio, aching all over routinely and having sleep troubles. Just like overtraining, although my log reflects that I can hardly claim that excuse.

Thurs Sept 6
BW 228.8
Just time enough to do a little bodyweight stuff:
Hindu squats x 20
pushups x 20
crunches x 40
Repeat x 4. Of note, zercher hindu squats with toddler added and pushups with said toddler climbing onto ones hips add substantially to the difficulty.
Off to the ER.

Just glad my log hasn't fallen off the first page. Judo tonight, ground work with a guy with a lot of jits in his background. Accordingly, tried to play more of the BJJ game - pins don't win, work for subs, shrimp and guard instead of turtle. Judo is going to be intermittent, because of my schedule at work sucking greatly. 8 shifts in 9 days sucked the soul out of me anyway.

Sun Sept 16
Judo - ground work with Virgil sensei and a new guy coming to us from a local BJJ club. Our club numbers will be up as the undergrads come back this weekend, which is good because I am tired of getting squished routinely by Virgil. Not that I will suddenly be improving, but I will at least have several others to roll with as well.

Mon Sept 17
Judo. Replaced the mats the facility took up for a warm up, then ground work randori followed by a few rounds of standing. We had uneven numbers and some returning students who, by their conditioning, spent the summer on the couch. Therefore, I was not in for enough rounds to make it a full workout. NBD, the joys of being a coach. We will be switching to drills and teaching mode during the week now that classes are starting.

Tues Sept 18
Alternated the standard flip vs. corkscrew grip with the 24kg LCCJ. Felt like I was rolling along at 10 rpm, alt 5/5, for about 6 minutes. A couple of brief pauses for toddler crossing the field of fire. Definitely prefered the corkscrew grip, although my knees felt more sore Wednesday than I remembered when I tried this previously.

Wed Sept 19
Judo. First hour assessing the newbies and some of the green belts that I hadn't seen all summer. I am pleased, o goshi and seoi nage provided little problems for them.
Then, randori. Quick distinction between those who had been training and those who had gone home for the summer. During standing, fought Toshiya, a zippy little guy who occasionally goes out to the OTC. He nailed me with a couple of beautiful drop two handed seoinage. I stuck him once when I slowed down his game and hit him with a soto makikome (no, I did not land on him).
