Meditation from 2AM - 5:30. I felt surprisingly strong considering only 3 hours of sleep.

I was going to check in here in case you didn't see my question on how you'd follow etk on my own log.... but your 3 hour meditation session has distracted me; what was that about? Was it a solo effort or were you with a group? What method are you using currently?

Odin, I almost always use the method called anapanasati. The best description I have seen is in a book called "Breath by Breath: The Liberating Practice of Insight Meditation" by Larry Rosenberg. I also like Shikantaza which is a zen method. In Shikantaza, you can see the Anapanasati steps unfold even though you are not consciously practicing that method.

This long meditation was unplanned but I woke up early and figured I would probably not go back to sleep so I started meditation.

Yeah, I've never practiced that specifically but am familiar with it; it's based on the Mindfulness Sutra (I think). I've seen Thich Naht Hanh write about it. I currently do something called Samatha which is pretty similar to be honest - just a slightly different route into developing mindfulness. I'll look out for that book at the library.

Not a bad idea actually - I'll have to remember that next time I'm struggling for sleep.

Odin, Thich Naht Hanh did write a book based on the anapana sutta. The Rosenberg book is much better in my opinion. The book , "mindfullness bliss and beyond" by Ajahn Brahm also describes it but it is a more advanced book. This book describes the jhanas which are the highest states of samatha possible. It is the only book I have ever seen that describe these states in fairly clear English. It probably helps that the author is English. He wrote another book "Who ordered this Truckload of Dung" which I liked as well but it is not about meditation.

Yes I like Ajahn Brahm - he has a weekly podcast I subscribe to. He has a humourous, easy to grasp way of explaining things. Thanks for the recommendations.

Last 2 sets were much harder than usual. Yesterdays snatch+light swings must have had a bigger effect than I realized. May be I will just do this on Saturday from now on.

Just thought I'd pop in and tell you how much I admire your trainings, thinking of giving it a go myself using the TGU instead of the press, plus your recomendation of mindfulness in plain English has been of great help!

Thanks zak-zombie.
I have tried to change but I am addicted to swings every morning. The cleans+press is used more for a cardio warmup to swings than for increasing pressing strength. I like the tgu's but they bother my knee so I do not do them very often.

Weight is in downward spiral even with an increase in low fat unprocessed carbs.
Endurance and strength are up. Anyone wishing to lose wt should consider my diet + kb swings.

Weight is slowly trending downward despite eating about as much food as I can stand. It started when I increased my weekly swing total a little. But the 28kg is feeling light lately so I will keep it up for a while.
