Not entirely sure I'm going to keep a true log or not, but in keeping with the bet, here are my pics.

I'm not entirely sure I wanted to see those pictures. Good luck.

What kind of training will you be engaging in, Peach?

Gonna be upping to the regular YRG, and adding cardio and bw conditioning with the kickboxing class I discussed in the TF.

Ask one of these know-it-alls here to be your celebrity trainer with a one-year goal. I'm a student, not an expert by any means, but here's a few thoughts:

Most of the advice I see these days includes keeping a food diary (I'm using sparkpeople.com), minimizing processed foods, and upping your lean protein and vegetables.

It also includes weight lifting because muscle ups your metabolism.

Last, I'd think you'd want to start slow and steady to avoid getting injured or overtraining. Using a heart monitor to track your exertion levels is a nice tool and allows you to track progress.

Taking all this together, my guess is one of our know-it-all trainers here would send you to a fancy-pants gym, have a trainer there work with you to get your weightlifting right, and keep a food and training log.

Good luck.

Today's "training" was about 2.5 miles of snow hiking at Swede Hollow park in St Paul. (Looking for the winter carnival medallion) Lots of up and down hills, digging in the snow, and for kicks, some shovel sledding down one of the steepest of the 7 hills of St Paul.

From Jan 19-26:
40 min YRG50+ ----- 4 sessions
Urban hiking in search of that Winter Carnival medallion 3hrs (all i could take of the -6 temp)

As I posted in the TF, eating a hell of a lot less by focusing on actual hunger, eating slowly, and stopping a meal when I begin to feel full.

Wed 1/28 - 45min walk with dogs (twice)
Thr 1/29 - 45min walk and 20min YRG
Fri 1/30 - 25min walk (a bit colder than I expected this morning so I cut it short)

Prolly shoulda done more seein' that the fatty wager weigh-in is tomorrow, but since my diet is tight, I'm confident I will see a pretty big weight loss for 3 weeks.

1/31 - Took a tumble on wet ice, resulting in some serious back pain.
2/1 - 2/5 - Limited to walking and chiro prescribed stretches. Kinesio tape helping me keep the duration and pace respectable. Calories kept in check, though tuesday's burger at Red Robin wasn't the best nutritional choice.

Meh. If you get a burger now and then, it won't kill the progress. Ditch the bun, skip the fries (I know, I know), and get a salad on the side. Could also see if they'll sub veggies for the fries. Problem is, the "veggies" usually consist of corn and more corn.

Keep at it. I'm rocking the YRG 40 with little adaption now and want to move up to the 60 soon.

Patience=in 7-10 days you're back moving and healthy. Impatience= reinjury, collateral problems, many months of recovery.

The bet goes a year. The Chabad House of Toledo needs new contributors, but I'd rather crush you when you're injury-free. Far more satisfying when you have no excuses.

2/6/09 75min walking spread over 2 sessions
2/7/09 45min walk and 20min YRG
2/8/09 45min walk and the rest of the day doing housework.

Not weighing again until 28 Feb., but the belt is now down 2 notches.

2/9 nothing but walks with the dogs
2/10 YRG to loosen up before the long drive. Also lost my discipline and weighed in...374. So, the running tally is 22lbs after 30days, and just 3 pounds from my February goal. Things will get tougher later this month with a convention in FL that will feature a nice spread at every meeting.

Awesome!

When it gets more difficult, that food diary works like a charm.

Don't let PT psych you out with all the BS about easy does it. He can't walk without falling down on ice every other day.

No worries about any psyching. I'm a fuckin' jedi.

2/12 took advantage of friendly Omaha hotel's guest passes and did an hour on the treadmill at fancy gym. Tried to do the "chi walking" method.

2/13 40min walk with dogs, 20min YRG. Back is just about pain free.

2/14 - 40min YRG
2/15 - 6mi walk
2/16 - 40min YRG

Not counting walks with the dogs any more. Those really aren't much for getting the heart rate up.

Weight held at 374 despite the addition of assorted cookies, candy, and chocolate. Definitely ate some even when I wasn't really hungry, but kept enough discipline to not go overboard.

2/17 3mile walk with a couple minutes of running in there
2/18 20min YRG morning, 40min YRG evening
2/19 20min YRG and push-ups, 10X10

2/21 - Snow tubing. Several hours outdoors, lots of snow tramping, but not real strenuous because there was a magic carpet to bring us up the hill.
FWIW, the 372lb guy is the most popular at the tubing hill, and complete strangers will ask you to join their group to help them get more speed.

Going to Orlando for a convention. Will be a good test, as corporate events are just 4-day buffets with meetings interspersed. Gonna really have to focus on only eating when I'm hungry and stopping when the pang goes away.

2/22 - 40min yrg
2/23,24,25 - 2.4mi walk on the beautiful Caribe Royale walk/jog path. Even threw in a few minutes of jogging on 2-25.

Convention in Orlando was OK, as I did limit myself to one plate at each of the buffet meals, but I did kind of unconsciously clean the plate each time, so I probably ate more than I really needed too. Still, the weight held at 372. Belts are now on notch 5, and were on notch 2 when I started this bet.

2/27 - morning YRG 40min.

Not much this week other than dealing with the drama and stress. Didn't eat healthy, but also didn't eat much, so hopefully the weight loss will continue.

3-5-09 YRG 40min (actually the 20min warm-up but I paused several times to hold poses as long as I could)
3-6-09 YRG 40min (the real 40min workout)

The YRG 50+ is getting pretty easy even though I am definitely 50+ overweight. Will order the next level up and dig through my wife's yoga DVDs for something that is challenging but not in a homosexual way.

3-7-09 Tactical house cleaning, 2hrs of dog walks (not exactly cardio but much longer than usual)
3-8-09 Primitive appliance installation, painting, and 20min YRG to loosen up.

Put belt on 6th notch with some room to spare. My belts only have 7 notches so will either need new belts soon or to make new holes in the existing belts.
