Treb's Trenchant Transgressions

Post by Trebuchet » Mon May 18, 2009 1:38 am

Mickey is right ; prolly time to post here as being upstanding & whatnot I'm not keen to have my secret log nestling b/w spambot filth @ the FKF.

Currently in a mixed training phase i.e. keeping fit & uninjured & enjoying the iron, with a few challenges unanswered. The 40kg nutball OAJ / 1 hand switch is one , but I will do it when ready i.e. when I think I can get to 10 mins and not invoke injury.

9/5
2x32kg LCCJ 8,8,10
2x24kg LCCJ 6rpmx4,3 mins
92.5kg Jump Sq 60,60,60

11/5
Day off ; stonelifting & rolling for ~ 4 hours
The Atlas stone went up too
p.m. tried a few 2x32kg jerks but power wasn’t there , no surprise
So did 2 sets of OAJ instead
36kg 3.5/4mins @7rpm
40kg 2/3mins @7rpm

12/5
Running, all easy to moderate cadence
5x100m
5x400m
1x1000m
5x100m
Snatch set 28kg 50/45

14/5
2x24kg LCCJ 8min/50 reps
32kg OAJ 20/20 (minute sets)
24kg snatch 55/55@22rpm
60kg Front squat fast 5x10

16/5

28kg snatch 20/20 (swing 5,snatch 5 rptx4)

17/5
2x24kg LCCJ 1x12

Crikies! That's really moving fast with the 24s!

I have try couple times drop set ideas.
Ratsinsky tells some training system that they train in Russian team.It seems like somekind dropset/Ryabchenko system.
What is your next goal? When is your next competion?
I go to Ventspils and 4 weeks after that we have first Finland championship competion.
I heard that IUKL have veterans word championship in Tallinna Estonia same time than professions gireviks. I think I go there ](*,) (in october). So many competetion in future \:D/

I have used a modified method before , yes. It is good and effective; I think it is very good for older athletes and those with busy lives! You can tweak it easily and the waving of intensity and volume is clear to see week by week. But like any program, you have to stick to it!

I have no definite next competition. Competition is always with myself , to find ways to get better. But , we are slowly growing GS downunder and comps will be part of that very soon.

Best of luck with your training and in competitions! And for celebrations after :drinkers:

27/6
100m sprint intervals 3 per lap x4

28/6 Session 5/6 ; this was almost on my limit and I think shows I started the progression just a tad ambitiously. The final reps of the 24kg sets found out my OH endurance - triceps were burning.

2x28kg 25
2x24 31+33

Snatches 30-60s b/w sets

1/7
quick one
back squats 70,90,100kg x5 ; 110,120kg x3
alt with OALCCJ 24,28,32 & 36kg bell. Last set was 2min R/L holding lockout 10secs each rep (4rpm)

2/7
HRA session inc KB. No details, just it was v tough.

100m hill sprints , x15
Thinking of doing the world masters games in October , 400 m run...
That , and GS.

5/7
bushwalk 1 hr
brief strength session -
Full squats up to 120kgx3
2KB presses , up to 2x36kgx1 (slight push press , but PR, >90%bw)
OAP, strict, up to 36kg
rack hold 2x36kg 5 min (pr, could have gone 8-10) , must be the zombie effect...

6/7
Jerks
2x32kg 5, 2x28kg 4+6 , 2x24kg 8
Snatches
32kg x7/7 ; 28kg x 11/11+13/13 ; 24kg x20/20 - 1 long set

7/7
LCCJ
2x24kg 7mins@7rpm
Pyramid 2x24,28,32,32,28,24 - 1min each weight
Jump sq 90kg 1x100 - went light as still had calf DOMS from hill sprints. Still do!

8/7 short session, jerks only, 1 min bw sets
2x32 = 8
2x28 = 8+10
2x24 = 13

9/7
HRA zombie metcon session nonstop 1 hour, what doesn't kill ya...
13/7
Solid run , 25mins on boggy footy oval ; some bw quad work afterwards

14/7
The Infernal 600 Challenge was mocking me

The goal was to do it with a 24kg KB in relaxed GS style , with 1 switch per 50 and no setting bell down. As expected, this challenge was tough.
Warmup 2x28kg swings 5x8

Snatches 50/50
Cleans 50/50
Squats 50/50 broken into sets of 15-20, bell in rack
Swings 50/50

At this point I was feeling a little bleak. From here on it was mental. Literally.
Push presses 30/30/10/10/10/10
Jerks 25/25/25/25

Done in 38mins with enough rest along the way to achieve the goal - to finish without being ill -and not to put the bell down. Obviously there is room for improvement but I'm not rushing to repeat this nasty beast. Now I'm off for a little lie down .

17/7-19/7 IKSA KB workshop/cert. Being an older gent I paced myself & had a thoroughly enjoyable time!

21/7 am
2x16 jerks 40/2mins 16kg snatch 40/40 3mins
20 drill kata used 2x24 for power drills and 16 for others.
pm free play with various drills from the weekend.
No chance to run. Dark , rainy , freezing. Winter sucks.

22/7
Feeling flat & uninspired after work.
Mucked around , didn't really get going. Some 1/2 squats chucked in.
Finished with 300 H2H swings with a 24 , ho hum.
No opportunity to run, bit annoyed.

23/7
Flat again , tired from work. But revved up after dinner - Percy Cerutty wrote a book "Move or Die"...
2x24kg LCCJ
warmup 5 , jumped into 10 setsx2min@6rpm with 1-1.5mins between and 1 min finisher x 12 reps.
Best they have ever felt , OH flexibility is at an all time high and power/lockout/breathing/rhythm felt perfect.

Next decision ? run 400m @ world masters games in 3 months. If so, will plan training better.
25/7
kata with 16
Juggling with 12kg , 30mins
seated OAP 24kg

26/7
Snatch 24kg 255/2mins ; 205@10mins and 25/25 to finish
20mins easy run with some hilly bits

27/7
Hoping to get accepted to the Sydney games ; started 400m training anyway!
a.m. deadlift up to 100kg 3x3 SLDL + Sumo styles ; 130kg 3x3 normal style

OK , so have a 400m to run around Olympic Park mid October
Main thing is not get injured!

28/7
a.m. wakeup call OALCCJ 32kg 40/40 10mins (1 switch)
p.m. cold rainy moonlit beach
1600m of 100m sprint/jog repeats
8x200m sprints , walked back . done @ ~85%

29/7
Recovery after hard running yesterday; this was a nice session , not too taxing.

1. 10mins dynamic warmup with freestyle kata using 1-2x16kg Kbs , multidirectional

2. GPP for running , emphasis on controlled explosive power

20min set (5,5,5+5 mins) of 2x16kg LCCJ (12rpm), SCJ(18rpm) and snatch (22rpm 1 hand switch)

3. Assistance

90kg 1/2 squats (Oly style to parallel , 3x10 explosive as possible) supersetted with 36kg OAJ 10/10 (40sec sets)

4. Finish

90kg jump squat 1x120

30/7
HRA afterdark outdoor session: "Animal" week 3 , 1 hour continuous

31/7
Just some play to unload after a difficult week at work.
2x32kg MP 3x5 ; 2x28kg MP 5x5
some jerks with 48kg
some stone work, incl shouldering.

1/8
sprint 6x60m steep hill ; 100% effort , walked down b/w reps. This was hard and I was stuffed afterwards.

2/8
2x28 rack hold/lockout sets
2x24 LCCJ 8mins = 54
1x28kg OALCCJ 10mins =45/45
Run soft sand 20mins ~4.2km

3/8
Deadlift straightlegged+sumo+normal (3+3+3) rep sets with 70,90,110,120kg then 130kg normal 1x3

Step ups with barbell
Box jumps
Depth jumps
finished with 1x30 tuck jumps, starting to feel very springy & quick

4/8
a.m.
before work 12mins on bike with hills , 2x24kg cleans 1x50 fast.
p.m.
24kg snatches from cold 60/60 @20rpm
2x24kg LCCJ 5 mins =35
Run 6x150 hill sprints ; dark , cold and windy
24kg snatches 40/40

5/8
prick of an 11hr day
squeezed in 2x24kg jerks 8mins 53 reps(6/7 etc & 8 last min) ; 3 mins break then 2mins(19) 1.5mins break then 1min(12)
and then 2.5km hill running fartlek style. Plenty of work ahead though.

6/8
24kg snatches 75/75@18rpm ; 55/55 @ 18rpm
28kg snatches 30/30 @ 25rpm
squat 70kg x5 , 90kgx3 , 110kg 2x3 ,120kg 2x3
Oleg circuit with 2x16 ; 2 rounds as a finisher

8/8
comp LCCJ 2x24 = 74/10mins

9/8
snatch 24 = 90/90 @18rpm done from cold with some rest bw hands
beach sprints 6x300m

10/8
Some jerk sets with 2x24 , also 2x28kg MP 3x5
24kg snatch 9mins 85/85 ; have been doing these with no chalk and even with cold clammy handles it's going OK.

11/8
a.m. Hindu squats 150
p.m. Achilles was a bit sore yesterday , needed to test
2 Beach , high tide = not the best for running
warmup stretch and 6x100m all out sprints
200m walking lunges
Home for 2x24kg LCCJ (8,7,8,7, in 5mins
2x28kg jerks 3x8
2x16kg jerks 2mins@20rpm
72kg full squats 24 in 1 min
82kg jump squats 3x75(45secs/set)

The above was done for balance , ballistic speed and acid tolerance
It was a good session.

13/8
too wet 'n' dark for run
snatches
24kg 1x20/20
28kg 1x20/20
32kg 1x35/40 , it's been ages
28kg 1x35/35
24kg 1x40/40

72kg full squat 2mins = 35
72kg jump squat 1x130
all I had time for

15/8
Comp #2 - snatch only- 92L82R actually did 88 R but only when reviewed video did I realise I'd gone 10:45. Still , right hand died which was disappointing - but utterly predictable given lack of tapering.

In annoyance I went out and did 120m hill sprints. At 7 wanted to quit but stuck it out for 15. These sprints are hard.

1608
deadlift up to 130kg
36kg OAJ 8x8+8@8rpm

17/8
2x24 jerks - 5,10,15,20,15,10,5
Snatches 28kg 5,10,15 then 24kg 20,15,10,5 per side

19/8
pushups on KBs , horizontal handles 1x25 vert 1x20
2x16kg jerks - 3,3,3 mins
pushups as above but 20 & 15 reps
cycle with hills , varied slope and cadence

20/8
"Oleg" circuit with 2x16kg , 3 rounds back to back
5 mins rest then snatch gauntlet , 1 min sets of 10/10 with 24,28,32,36kg
( 1 min rest )

1.5hrs later HRA after dark session "Phoenix" - 60mins continuous metcon, that was really hard yakka!

Soon will have to get on the proper track and work specifically on running strategy. Only 6 weeks or so til comp.

22/8
2x24kg jerks , some sets of 10 or so reps to remedy some tightness from the last session
Later did (after a warmup) did 5x300m sprints on rather mushy grass , but no choice , have to start running bends ASAP. This kind of running is bloody hard and my calves are quite tight. Plan to get on a proper track Monday night.

23/8
Full squat 112kg 5x3
Jump sq 92kg 3x50

24/8
a.m. 3 rounds of 3 different circuits , emphasis on mobility
2x24kg cleans , 3 sets of 3 mins @ 12rpm , varying pace and rest in rack , 1 min rest each time , then 2x28kg cleans 1 minute =32 (max effort = "400m")

p.m. running session on track, it was cold and blustery , got some coaching , every bit helps
various drills , bookending the main session which was 5 rounds of 75-90% 400m efforts done as 100m sprint 50 jog 100 /50/100. Calves are pretty tight now and will have to work on recovery. Reinforces how GS is easy on the body!

From now on just need to tweak technique , improve speed , plus continue the specific metabolic conditioning. No 50% efforts...

25/8
Managing my tight calves with a light jog , and a wade in Tassie's specially cold water. Snowing on the mountain today...

Later did some hockey with my son
Then 2x28kg swings chest high for glute/ham stretch/strengthen. Keeping movement linear and forward , plus anatomical breathing .
4 sets 14reps/20secs
1 set 25reps to finish
If I feel OK it's back to sprinting tomorrow. If.

27/8
Running is out as it has been raining/windy non-stop. I am not sprinting on grass or road beacuse that is dumb. But I did buy some spikes so maybe can get on the wet track sometime. Even the HRA session was cancelled it was so wet. This winter just sucks.

Instead , did some mobility work which included
2x16 jerks 50 , LCCJ 50
OAJ 28kg 2x15/15
2x24 jerks 5x12 1min on/off
24kg snatch 48/48 (4 mins)
& stuff with bands

The above was manna for the stresses and strains of hard running practise.

28/8
Have been doing ART on calves this week. In retrospect sand running was probably not so bright but possibly smarter than wet grass and/or road sprinting. Anyhow rather than sprint again I took advantage of a lull in the weather to run along the side of the mountain , gravel trail. 30mins up 25 back , gentle slope. No drama. Except for the stunning views.

Long story short I got through heats and semis of 400m at world masters games 2 weeks ago and finished 7/9. Several ex Olympic runners in the front of the field. My best time was 55.3 , which age adjusted is just under 49secs. First 400m races since 1979. Training was very challenging; just as hard as pure GS training, but obviously different energy system emphasis. Now I'm gearing up for some track comps over summer , mostly 400/200 plus mixing in the KBs for experimentation and X effect. Also , have tapped into the American T&F knowledges!

Running is hard on the body but I can manage it. Now , we won't talk about triple jumping...

Great job Treb. That's an incredible performance even for a 20 year old who trained for the event as little as you have.

nursing heel bruise from return to triple jump ](*,)
5/11 OALCCJ 24kg 150/150

7/11
Oleg circuit 1 round of 2x24kg 5 repsx8 drills warmup
2x24kg jerk 90 in ~ 9 mins , havent done more than 4 mins or so in recent months
Missing not running , but being sensible. Will return to track excitement if/when heel settles,
which if I keep banging away with jerks probably won't happen soon.

Admirable, but then again, everything you've been getting done in training and competition is, Paul. Congrats!

Thank you fellas ; I am in some sort of limbo whilst waiting for the heel to come right. was thinking of some track work today but it was too hot and I was tired.
9/11 wt 74kg and should be at least a couple heavier.
3 hrs whippersnipping ; big bushfire season coming up!
a test , of sorts, away from 32s for months so tried out jerks
2x32 = 1x22 , steady pace; right tricep was what died , just as it did in Latvia , must sort this out
2x28 = 1x22 minisets of 7
2x24 = 1x22 minisets of 11

weighted chinups , bw+16kg on thickbar hanging off chains
8,7,6

Tazzie, you were lifting under 78kg:s ?? I was in world champonship Maardu Eastonia.
In veteran division ,with your results, you were silver or bronze medalist :-k
Fuglyev make jerk 182 and snatch 252,so I think that is little too much to you :?:::;
Every Finish lifters get medals in veteran division.
Sanna-kaisa Kaikkonen win gold medal.I win too,but there was anyone else in my age-weight category :attentionex:
Simo and Markku get silver medals and Ari take bronze medal .
Seems that you focus to T&F.
When you came to compete in Europe? It seems that next world championship is in Oslo ,Norway.
You could do like Fuglyev. He win first day jerk 2 x 32kg 128 and snatch 197.Next day he win LC with 32kg 80 reps and compete in relay race.Third day he win veteran biathlon. Then we leave there and perhaps he go to veterans LC and win that?? :prayer: :prayer: :prayer: :prayer: :prayer:
He is allmighty <<<<q He is allways trying his best.Even he knows that he win,he never quit =D>
This year Fuglyev lifts in IUKL world championship. It seems that most world class lifers are in IUKL.
I hope we will see in veterans world championship and take some beers after that.
