I was using it as a collective term for any limbering, stretching squats, pushups, makiwara, etc. etc. that I do as a warm up. I don't have any of the traditional equipment, but I have a lot of good substitutes.

EDIT: I believe that I might have used the term yobi-undo or junbi-undo ("preliminary exercises") more accurately.

2009.07.29PM; jiujitsu...helped a beginner through an hour class with Rhalan Gracie, working on back attacks, chokes and armbars. Finished off helping him through his rolling and then did a couple rounds with a big purple, Gerold and put him away with arm triangles from side control.
Aloha!

Drake is one of the baddest little dudes around, and has more street fights than everyone in the lineup except Relson. He is known as Drake the Snake for a reason; he even has his own MMA team The Bull's Pen. That photo is one of like three times he has worn a gi in the past decade. He was a four stripe blue belt the day I started jiujitsu back in 1997. Also a kempo black belt.

Jesus H Christ, not-so-Fatz! You are looking rather svelte and your plan is working. Keep up the great work!

statistics homework? Did you say you were doing a doctorate in Psychology? My wife is a clinical psychologist, but has no jits. Overall I find her more attractive than you but the lack of jits bugs me. Please advise.

EDIT: note to self; don't write on other people's logs when you've been drinking since 3 in the afternoon. It's neither funny nor clever. Sorry Mak.

Thanks boys!

2009.08.02PM; warmed up with the Pilates For Men intermediate series. I missed it every day for the month I stopped doing it, so I am going to keep it as frequent as possible. I am reminded both of Arthur Saxon's maxim: "Train the organs and the muscles will take care of themselves," and the karate tradition of training the haragei. Both are, in my experience, laying emphasis on the correct part of the body. Anyway, after 15 minutes of Pilates I did these few exercises and then some gardening:

1. Ring Pullups 3 x 8
2. Ring Pushups 5 x 10

2009.08.03PM; jiujitsu...rolled for almost in hour in intense heat and humidity. I really wasn't breathing well, which is something to watch, but I think it was just summer in the tropics after a weekend of partying.

2009.08.05PM; jiujitsu...worked and studied all day but managed to get some training in.

Joined a class from Rhalan Gracie where he was covering vale tudo escapes from Relson's personal jiujitsu system. These are not for sport but for situations where any technique, including groin strikes and eye gouges are included. We worked on escapes from mount, side control and bottom half guard when a fight has gone awry and everything is possible. A little time was devoted to headbutts, elbows, and palm strikes inside the guard.

It was very good--sport jiujitsu is fun, but this is the essence of the art--and I enjoyed every minute of it. Relson's techniques are unique, even within the Gracie family and have a kind of beauty to them.

Afterward I rolled with a blue belt for fifteen minutes and then had to split back to reality.

Aloha!

This sounds incredible. Nothing like enjoying his technology when he came about it, no doubt, in a very violent way. Very good stuff Mak.

2009.08.10PM; jiujitsu...did a class on high closed guard attacks and then rolled with my partner, a burly 235 lbs. blue named Andy from Torrance. I took him down repeatedly, kept him in side control, but I couldn't finish him although I came close. It's killing me now. We rolled for 25 minutes straight, and the one time he got out from under me I put him right back, but now I'm torturing myself in my mind. +25 lbs. has always been my magic cutoff, and tonight proved it. Apparently he'll be a regular now, so hopefully we'll have more time to train because he was a monster physically.

Aloha!
