Comfort yourself with the thought that I was gonna skip doing the inman carries as well until I saw in your log that you had punished yourself with sandbag stuff :)

FUCK! This is going to suck so bad.

You`ll have fun going the whole mile!Just did a mile ruck with 159.7#.Sucks pretty badly I wish to inform you.I can at least lean forward now and again, but I wouldn`t want to try that with a barbell.
Might give you a quick scalping if you do.

Indeed...I've done 9 miles with almost 200lbs on a battalion march before, but that was distributed through body armor, ruck, etc. The fact that all the weight is on that narrow bar crushing into your traps is what kills it.

I`ll give it a try once the roads stop being icy.The distribution tonight was a 122# something ruck and a weight vest.

1/17/2012

Ran up and down a field all morning with guys much younger than me, as I monitored their CFT. Got home, attempted squat workout:

squats:
10xbar
10x95
10x135
5x185
5x240

Should have been 2 more sets but lack of sleep plus aforementioned running around had completely smoked me. Got stuck at the bottom of the 5th rep with 240 and called it. Loaded up my homemade crazyball to about 60lbs and did 15 swings each arm, then went in the house, did some ab rollouts and done. Fucking tired.

Still waiting for Ed to check in with his initial inman carry training ;)

Cycle 5, week 3, day 4, squats done correctly

Not going out like a bitch. Got em done.

squats:
2x10xbar
10x95
5x135
3x185
5x240
3x270
2x305 (RPE, oh about 8-ish)

RDLs:
3x8x225 (forgot my straps)

2k on the c2 rower in 10:07.

I'm fucking *tired*. But not as bad as yesterday. Hiking tomorrow, maybe some inman carries.

Burning fat, workin those lungs.

Hike stamina trail, 3 miles/45 mins, 45lb pack. I'll bump it up to 50 next week. Was gonna go for a second lap but legs weren't having it [not in the collective bargaining agreement] and threatened a walkout.

(beat)

(studio laughter)

Got back, dropped the pack, went into gym.

finger curls, which I'm pretty sure I'm doing wrong:
10xbar
10x95
10x135
10x95

shrugs (w/straps):
10x135
10x185
10x235
10x275

And finally, some crazyball swings to bump the cardio back up and generally make me suffer.

1 hand kb swings
10L/10Rx35
10L/10Rx44
10L/10Rx53
10L/10Rx62
10L/10Rx70

They jump from 70 to 88 and my back was cramping up, so I called it. Good day.

That's sound like a fun workout. You need to renegotiate with your legs. And as always good work Z.

I've come to the conclusion that grip work is ugly.

Ed; Yeah, couldn't get my wrists to feel right, no matter where I had them on the bar. Might try it with the dumbbells instead. And also do more with the other grip stuff.

Thanks, Dunn.

I'm doing the forearm pump thing with my 16# shot. I haven't tried the finger curls yet. Ran out of time at the gym today. I may try it with cattleballs tonight.

I`m not really sure where the thumbs should be on finger curls.I had them round the bar.but in Beyond bodybuilding (in the photos)they are on the same side as the fingers.Awesome exercise though.
Good work.I have to be careful when I go out carrying anything right now.Too much ive and snow on the roads right now.

Trial run at the IGX challenge. Doubles every thirty seconds. My lower back told me to find a different pacing.

Thought I'd do some squats. Bad idea.

10xbar
10x95
10x135
10x185
10x135

Back seized up something fierce after I went back into the house. Me and JJ watched my video of pulling from the challenge attempt the other night and she quickly spotted why my back is tweaked up (and why it started locking up the other night). See if you can spot the bad technique! Note: for some reason I sound like a dumb mook during the speaking portion.

I didn't know (prepare for me to sound really ignorant) that it mattered any how you put the weight down. Notice that my back rounds on the descent, every time. That's how I've been pulling (or dropping to be precise) since I started last year. No wonder my lower back always hurts!

That vid is some freaky Blair Witch shit.

You need to watch Tucker and Dale VS Evil. I think your shed is in it.

Also how many cases of chalk do you go through in a year with those catcher's mitts you have for hands? :happiness:

I have never hurt my back pulling a weight up...setting it down...many times. probably worst strain ever lowering a piddly 315.

Thanks man, efficiency is an awesome thing. So you've done the same, somewhat? I'm going to be very cognizant from now on of my form, maybe this is a factor keeping my lower back weak and unstable.

Ed: Luckily I don't use chalk much, else I'd have to buy it in bulk. My hands do kind of stick out in the video.

And yeah, maybe I have a future as an low-budget horror movie director...

miscellany

Wrestled a 350lb tire into the back of my suburban.

Carried a 200+ lbs section of telephone pole about 120 meters. yards. whatever. How long is a furlong?

emptied some things out of suburban into shed of doooooooom, while I was in there randomly took the barbell [@ 135lbs] out of rack and 1h jerked it with right hand.

Drank decent amount of beer, enjoyed an awesome fire.

It was Guinness. Delicious, wonderful Guinness.

2/4/2012

Lots of power cleans up 2-something. Got technique fixed with some excellent coaching.

lunch

Lots of HG stuff, WOB up to 61 lbs, hammer with 10 lbs out to about 60' [uphill], threw the shot a few times, WFD with 27 lbs. My spin is horrible at the end.

Chopped on a gum log a bit.

More delicious Guinness and near enough pie to put me into a coma.

Cycle 6, week 1, day 2, Squat

Just got done being sick for the first time in nearly ten years. This workout started with me feeling like garbage but actually finished pretty good.

warmup:
8 min/1500m C2 rower

Squats:
10xbar
10x95
5x135
5x185
5x215
5x250
6x280 (I honestly felt like it was going to be zeroX280)

BB Good mornings:
10x135
10x135
10x155

Never done these before, have no frame of reference for sets/reps. Anyone? Chime in, comrades.

Bulgarian split squats:
10 each side X bodyweight
10 each side X 35lb db each hand.

Should have stuck with bodyweight, the 35s were too much of a balance issue, and my back started tweaking. Once again, sets/reps? Trying to get the hammies caught up.
