Aloha guys, thanks for the kindness.

2011.09.12PM; jiujitsu...actually, while I have not logged any workouts I was in one of the most rugged portions of the Hawaiian archipelago. We are doing work for a state park at Kiholo Bay and I spent the last three days hiking and photographing wildlife, birds and sea turtles mostly. Also, the Contrology continues apace.

Took a class from our in-school professor. He was in a good mood because has just got ranked 17th in the world in long boarding so he brought back a Bad Boy sponsorship from Sri Lanka, also got us free Bad Boy kimonos out of the deal. Our class was on the classic double threat choke/armbar from mount, and some variations with taking the back, finishing with the mata leao or transitioning to the rear triangle.

After class Andre put two stripes on my belt and said, "that's from Relson."

Aloha

Thanks again guys, I'm forging ahead with my "keep showing up" plan.

2011.09.14PM; exercise...had parents night for my son's preschool so I ran out of time for handstands. Since they are the "new" (for me) movement, I should probably insert them first.

1. Ring Chins 3 x 1, 2, 3 = 18
2. Ring Dips 3 x 1, 2, 3 @ +10 lbs. = 18
3. Pistols 3 x 1, 2, 3 = 18/18

2011.09.16PM; jiujitsu...just took two tough guys and put them through their paces for an hour.

I would wrestle one until he was tired and then switch them up, not stopping for 80 minutes. Smashed them, particularly with my main takedown entry right now, the bodylock. I like the bodylock because while you do often end up in guard, it's equally applicable to sport and self-defense and therefor deserves a place in my practice.

By the way, me chokes from back mount suck and I am going to make a whole study of mata leao.

Aloha!

2011.09.18PM; practice...my knees have not been feeling great this week so I am lowering the volume on the pistols for a while. I don't think it's the exercise, but rather the rapid jump in volume. I need to give my knees time to adjust, and I also have been wrestling hard and doing many miles of rough lava rock in the past week, so it's reasonable to pace myself.

1. Feet Supported Handstand 2 x 00:30 = 1:00
2. Ring Chins 2 x 1, 2, 3 = 12
3. Ring Dips 2 x 1, 2, 3 @ +10 lbs. = 12
4. Pistols 2 x 1, 2, 3 = 12

2011.09.18PM; jiujijtsu...two hours teaching combination attacks from side control top and mount escapes, focusing on the combative application when the opponent postures up to strike.

2011.09.21PM; jiujitsu...taught class for an hour on combo attacks from closed guard for the ground portion, and the basics of the double leg takedown. Afterward we all sparred. Even had a young woman switching over from amateur boxing; we don't get many so that's a rare opportunity to hone my skill for sharing jiujitsu with women.

2011.09.28PM; jiujitsu...best training in a while.

I have a little crew of guys that want to compete in the upcoming NAGAs. They are beginners and have only 4 minutes to a match, so we are working takedowns like a motherfucker. Today was double legs, big three, and how to sprawl. I am slowly building everything off the 1, 2, 3, 4 wrestler's shot and they like the challenge.

After that was takedowns for rounds; of course I was trying all my random shit from Cornish wrestling and Chidaoba, but whatever...good fun was had. I had one epic match with Wayne and finally took him down with a single, only to be swept and have to resort to a kimura from bottom half.

Fats, not sure if you ever elaborated on it.
Since you seem to be into hand-to-hand combat alot, especially wrestling/ground work type stuff, how/why did you decide on gracie JJ?
Was there any other school you might've considered?

Now look. I've eaten a pice of pie.
When we spin the pie again, the area cut out of the volume of the sphere equals fitness.

BTW, his customer service was memorably superb.

It was an easy decision for me, we were watching UFC 2 and somebody told me that Royce's older brother lived and taught just down the road. I've done many other martial arts but Relson Gracie is on a different level.
