Just checked, it's in Colne, Lancs. It's a looong way from London boy... You'll instantly believe every northern stereotype you ever heard.

LOL. I'll probably end up staying there the night before instead of driving down at 4 AM.

Yeah, it's where I did my first comp last month. It's an odd kind of a place, (same can be said for Lancs in general) but was a really good day. I'll write up any advice I can think of when I've got more time... Looking at the calendar, think I'll aim for the Lanc/Chesh comp in May. Depending on how my training goes I may put in for the push/pull, but right now I haven't benched since the start of Dec. What program you planning on using?

Any meet advice would be appreciated.

In terms of programs, I'll just be doing more of what I've been doing recently. For example, say I want to hit a 220 deadlift and 110 bench, I know I'll need to hit lots of singles at around 200kg, and 100 kg. I'm gonna take the next week off, come back and hit the gym hard for three or four weeks. Then take a week off, and do the comp. Since it's my first comp, I don't want to mess around with things like peaking. I'd rather just do what I normally do when I go for a PR which is take a week off and go for it. If I screw it up it's not the end of the world. I'll just learn from it.

try and watch some youtube vids of the last comp to get a feel for the commands and the length of thepause on the bench. The DL is straightforward, you can't really mess that up, but make sure you get used to pausing the bench. I'm tempted by this now, the only thing stopping me is that it would entail abandoning my current program which is something I'm trying to do less of as I age!

Did a double overhand triple with 140kg whilst warming up. This is the most I've ever done double overhand.

Is that press a strict military press? Good numbers... Have you bought your leotard for the comp yet? Strengthshop have the cheapest, but if you still want to buy it after seeing the promo ad then I'll be amazed...

Cheers Odin. Yeah it's a strict military press, knees locked. I reckon I'm pretty close to 90 now, which was my goal for this year in terms of my press. I'd like to still weigh 90kg when I hit it.

Haven't bought my leotard yet, but I'll check out strengthshop. I just found out before I can lift I have to sign up to the GBPF for 40 quid, plus it's 10 quid to compete, plus I need to get a room for the night, plus petrol to get up there. All told I reckon I'm looking at 150 quid for the comp, minimum. Fucking criminal!

EDIT: LMAO! That strength shop picture is brilliant! I'm genuinely scared to wear it now!

yeah, try ebay as a more tasteful alternative!

Re the cost, at least the £40 enables you to compete in any future comps this year. The travel etc can't be helped - just think though, most lads in their 20's piss that much away each weekend! You driving up or using pub transport?

I just bought one from some wrestling site for 35 quid including postage. I'll probably drive up. If i can get my dad to come with and watch then i'll get rid of the petrol charge, cos he'll drive. If not I may take a train.

Ok, things are gonna need to change a bit starting next week. Not too much, but I need to plan the workouts during the week a bit better. Something like:

Monday:
Deficit deadlifts: Triples
Bench: Triples
Rows: Triples

Wednesday:
Press: Triples or singles
Pause Squats: Triples
Maybe powercleans or curls

Friday:
Deadlift: Singles
Paused Bench: Singles
Push Press: (If I feel like it)

Ah shit. My new singlet came today. I look pretty sexy in it actually. No belly at all.

Only problem is, it squashes my cock and balls together, and I end up looking like I have the worlds biggest cameltoe.

Dumbbell rows: (strapless and beltless): 40kg: 4 sets of 10 per hand.

Not for the moment Bobby. Just focusing on strength until the meet.

Press: 70kg: 5x5

Dumbbell incline: 34kg's: 2x5

Squats: 100kg: 17

Rows: 130kg: 2x5

Never tried 20 rep squats before. No reason to do them except I've always wondered if I could do them straight off with 225 lbs. I'm 99% sure I could have got 20, but I was a pussy. I also didn't do any warm up sets for them which was prolly pretty stupid.

bin 20 rep squats till after the meet! I messed around with these last september and I think they took more than they gave, strength wise...

Deadlift is looking strong; you gonna test a near-max before the meet? What you hoping for? 200ish?

Yeah, not gonna touch those again. I just did it more to see if I had the conditioning to make it through 20 reps.

On friday I'm going to go for reps with 170kg. I'll aim for between 5-10.

Next week I'll do some more deficits, and then go for a rep set with 180 next friday aiming for 3-5.

Week after some more deficits, and then go for 200kg single. If I hit it, 180 or 190 will be my opener, 200 my second attempt, and if I hit it I'll go for broke with 220 on my third. If I don't make the 200 kg single fairly easily in two weeks, then I'll probably just kill myself.

Fuck shit cunt fuck. Got dragged to the gym today to lift, didn't go well. Had a bad day too, which meant leaving lots of anger in the gym.

Bench: Up to 100kg paused, failed 105kg twice. Shit. I need more not paused singles with 100kg. Shit balls shit.

Deadlift: 170kg: 2x5.... 190kg: 1 (easy)....... 210kg: failed about an inch above knees. I was so fucking close.

Curls: 5 sets of 10.

I need to do well in this meet, and I'm fucking stressing because of it. It's removing any element of enjoyment from it. I know what I need to do. Look at the three weeks in my log prior to my recent 105kg bench and 200kg deadlift, and then copy the shit out of that.

100kg
105kg
110kg

180kg
200kg
210kg/220kg

Aim for this meet: 105/200 minimum, 110/210 preferable. 120/220 can be done in may. I need more barbell rows, more volume for my back, more bench singles, more powercleans, more push presses. Fuck the rest. I'm fucking pissed. Maybe I'll just get wasted tonight. I realised to, that since my dad has no idea of the difference between a 100kg bench and a 120 kg bench, maybe a better aim for my first meet would just be to go 6 for 6. Fuck. I don't know. One things for sure... I'm gonna hit 105/200 at this meet. AAARRRHGGGHHHH

Lifting through a hangover. Per Blaidd's post on the training forum, (which I read after I was drunk), I'm going to be staying away from the stuff till after my meet.

Bench: 90kg: 5x5

SLDL: 100kg: 5x5

Powercleans: Bunch of singles with 80kg
