Half-way through the book, very good.
Looking forwards to the movie.

Things aren't what they appear to be on the island.

Finished the book last week and saw the movie last night.
First off, the book changes part of the way through. I was partial to the original plot, and while I appreciated what Lehane was doing, I didn't like it as much from the point of things shifting. Still finished it, but I wasn't excited anymore about seeing the film.
But I went anyways. I just thought I'd watch it from a "let's see how they put it together" perspective, I wasn't too enthralled by the story especially knowing the conclusion.
And I realized I don't like Martin Scorsese's movies all that much. Something about the music and the general cinematography/feel of the picture.
This was no different, oppressive music (which reminded me of Cape Fear) and some chintzy use of CG and/or filtering. Meh. I think it could have been done better and for cheaper as well.
Leonardo Di Caprio does a good job, but ehhh....whatever. 6/10. I wouldn't recommend either (due mainly to not enjoying the 3rd act), but I liked the book better.

I thought the movie felt kind of like an hommage to times before special effects and omnipotent cameras.
Very oldschool cinematography and soundtrack, whch I enjoyed, though the intensity of the music was very overdone inb some parts.
I didn't read the book, but the movie was good entertainment.

This movie is now available via NetFlix streaming.
Not as 'scary' as advertised, but definitely creepy/disturbing. Well worth the time.
