They don't have to be classic or near perfect. Just a good film.
That said The Third Man is classic and near perfect.

BTW - I concur on Third Man. I still believe that Welles had more than a little hand in directing that film.

I recommend the movies of Michael Haneke, an Austrian director. I would do the french language version of "Funny Games" first. very bleak and somewhat disturbing, though.
Metropolitain is a good Woody Allen style talkie from the very early 90s.
since you like The Third Man, i'd highly recommend Orson Welles' version of Kafka's "The Trial"...also The Stranger and The Lady From Shanghai
Gomorrah is a good recent film about the slums of Naples
Barton Fink, which is probably my favorite Coen Brothers film
if you don't mind slow moving films, most of the movies John Cassavetes directed are on instant. he's my personal favorite all-time director
Sin Nombre
Withnail & I
some good docs:
Monster Camp
Harlan County USA
Not Quite Hollywood
Blood Into Wine
The King of Kong
Bigger Stronger Faster
Gates of Heaven
Vernon, Florida

Thanks. Restrepo was mentioned 3 times so it is on my queue for tonight.
Meanwhile, if you run across a good one, keep 'em coming as a public service.

It's not a streamable movie but Aguirre the Wrath of God was a great movie.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (start with the 50's version and then watch the 70's Donald Sutherland dark-as-fuck version)
Aliens -as mentioned above

Agreed. The lessons learned in "Oldboy," i.e. how to fight through a crowd with nothing but a claw hammer, are much harder to come by and more valuable than any grammar knowledges.
