Far Cry 3

Badass game...as good as I've played in a long-time. It has been referred to as "Skyrim with guns" but I don't think that's a fair comparison. It does have an incredible open world environment, but the character customization is non-existent. Yes, you can customize your game play through weapon selection and choosing a style of assault, sniping, stealth, etc. In that regard, it's a phenomenal game...you can tackle scenarios in a variety of different ways. There is also a fair bit of crafting involved, and the weapon customization is decent with a good selection of attachments and aesthetic modifiers.
Hand wringing liberals should steer clear as this game has caught flak for being "racist". The island natives that you team up with are the stereotypical helpless children who need a white messiah to help them, and the enemy pirates are extras from a Rick Ross video. Neither of these really bother me...quite the opposite in fact when it comes to doing a stealth takedown on one of the darkies.
Check it out...it's damn good.

Interesting Kaz. I may have to check this out. I'm getting a little bored and pissy with COD already.

Your COD skeelz will translate well to running and gunning on some pirates and wild animals.

Kaz, are you on a PC or console?
I ask because the original FarCry was one of the best PC games ever, but the console version was unplayable.

I'm on Xbox 360. I've never played any of the other Far Cry games, and I haven't played any PC games in ages. So I can't attest to any cross-platform issues.
I'm impressed with the games graphics, and I'm really pleased with the lack of long load screens. My one bitch about Skyrim was the unbearable load screens every time you started the game, fast traveled, or entered/exited a building. There isn't any of that long load time with Far Cry.
The original Far Cry was back before the PS3 and the 360, right? The consoles took a big leap forward with those game systems.

Yeah, it came out on the PS2 and was just another crappy 'rail shooter'. (On the PC it was a totally different game and you could go anywhere.)
They've pretty much killed PC gaming with this DRM crap but I've got a PS3 so I'll check it out.
Thanks.

It's pretty much an open world. I've encountered a couple of the missions that had that rail shooter aspect to it, but those restrictions are minimal and only serve to move the storyline along. If you're not currently engaged in a mission, you can pretty much explore and kill at your leisure.

Enjoyable. I strung together 5 takedowns today, it was sweet, sweet, genocide
