So, the #1 contender after Chael Sonnen was Mark Munoz. Right after Silva/Sonnen 2, Munoz proceeds to get demolished by the now #1 contender Chris Weidman, who also beat the #5 ranked fighter in his previous fight. Here are the highlights from the Munoz fight :

http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/7/1 ... -fuel-tv-4

Weidman is essentially a younger, more evolved version of Chael Sonnen. Better striking, submissions, wrestling, speed, 1" taller, 4" greater reach. Basically a stylistic nightmare for Silva, and the true #1 contender based off rankings and recent wins. So, of course, Silva calls out Rich Franklin for a 3rd fight and 170 pound GSP:

LULZ.

Hopefully they quit fucking around and take the fight.

I disagree that Weidman has anything for Anderson at this point. He's too green.

BUT .... LMFAO at Anderson saying he's interested in fighting the smaller GSP while refusing to fight the larger Jon Jones. I guess it's OK for GSP to fight a bigger man, it's just not Andy's thing.

Doesn't matter how "green" he is, he's the clear #1 contender in the 185 lb. weight class and thus who AS should fight (like how one of those real sport thingies works). And if he were to take down Anderson and get mount on him like Chael, which he would, it would be over.

I love how, when asked about moving to 205, Anderson says he wants to stay in "his" weight class and keep defending his title. When a clear #1 contender emerges, who also happens to be a stylistic nightmare for him, he wants to fight a non-contender who he beat twice already, or a guy the weight class below.

I'm ALL FOR the GSP superfight, but everyone, including Soares and Anderson, know that GSP is locked up for more at least 2 more fights at WW already, the first in November. Also every other contender at 185(Belfort, Belcher, Bisping, all ranked below Weidman) are already booked for fights this fall, plus AS and Weidman just fought a couple weeks apart, they will be ready to fight again at the exact same time.

They scurred.

he also said he'd be willing to fight...Luke Rockhold, from Strikeforce.

Wow, Andy! Taking on ALL comers!

And Dana will tell him to fight whoever will draw the most PPV buys in a fight with Spider.

He threw a fit about having to rematch Sonnen.

You mean like Thales Leites, Patrick Cote, and Yushin Okami?

Nope.

"we turned it down"

LOL at their reason, too. Anybody know how many UFC fights Anderson had before he got a title shot?

1, against Chris Leben.

Scared.

He's down to what are likely his last couple of fights.

I have no issues at all with Anderson not wanting to fight a guy like Wiedman. Dangerous and doesn't bring as much money to the table as someone like Franklin might.

It would be great for Wiedman and armchair critics to see Anderson fight him, but Anderson's got a bank account to pad at this point.

Money is, and in my opinion should, guide who he fights at this point.

edit: Even the Rockhold fight would draw well if the fight happened here in the Bay Area. San Jose is becoming a pretty solid fight town.

You seem to be ignoring the issue of timing. None of the people they say they want to fight will be ready again until next Spring. Rockhold even longer, if ever, as long as the Showtime deal is in place. Its not in a 38 year olds best interest to sit out for a year. As far as money goes, Silva would make an extra 5-10 million dollars to fight Weidman in the meantime, versus sitting on his ass till Spring and making nothing. People always criticize boxing for not being run like a real sport, then defend Silva for doing the same thing.

.

Anderson said he wants to fight for 5-10 more years

If Anderson sits out too long Dana will strip him of the title. Not that he gives a shit. And he may get the Franklin fight if he agrees to fight a legit contender next.

Who knows. I just can't make myself care about mma right now, much like @fit, Chik Fi La, and the current presidential election.

Anderson's management just came out and said they won't fight Weidman or Jon Jones but they are interested in fighting Diaz and GSP.

Shocking.

Anderson won't fight Jones because he's younger and bigger, but Anderson thinks GSP should fight him even though GSP is smaller and coming off a knee injury.

And Anderson won't fight Weidman b/c Weidman isn't a big enough draw and only has 9 fights, but Jones can't have that many more than that. And Silva had 1 fight (ONE!) before he had a title shot, yet he won't give Weidman a title shot b/c it wouldn't be profitable enough. Nice.

And then there's Diaz. Here's a shocker: Anderson, the best striker in MMA who only struggles against wrestlers, is thrilled to fight a smaller, flat footed striker with minimal wrestling skills.

fuck this guy

The #1 contender is the #1 contender and Silva should fight him. That said, Silva came over from an organization that was the equal of the UFC at the time of his debut. Not analogous to the current situation.

I sympathize with the money/purse angle - this is a business and no one here would leave millions of dollars for their family on the table to 'do what's right' by the rankings.

You guys are all crybabies and on the verge of going full retard.

The UFC is a business. For whatever reason, the UFC thought it was good business to put Silva in with Franklin after 1 fight in the UFC. Now, they have quite a bit more money on the line, and it makes little sense to put Wiedman in with Silva. How many people even know what Wiedman looks like?

It's not Silva's obligation to "give someone a shot" because he was given one before. Good business says he would call for the biggest money fights at this point. If that means Franklin, GSP, Diaz or even Rockhold (San Jose is a really good fight town), so be it.

Maybe one of those guys will upset Silva and then you guys can all take a chance from your butt fucking, mouth breathing, man purse carrying lives to crow about "getting what he deserved".
