An aircraft carrier? In Wyoming?

CHEYENNE – Fearing an economic and political collapse nationwide, Wyoming lawmakers are moving ahead with legislation to deal with a doomsday scenario -- complete with plans to create a state currency.

“Things happen quickly sometimes — look at Libya, look at Egypt, look at those situations,” the bill’s GOP sponsor State Rep. David Miller told the Star-Tribune in Casper. “We wouldn’t have time to meet as a Legislature or even in special session to do anything to respond.”

According to the Star-Tribune, House Bill 85 would create a state-run “government continuity task force,” to prepare Wyoming for potential disruptions in food and energy to a complete breakdown of the federal government.

Miller is also asking for the task force to look into creating its own state currency in the event the dollar loses value entirely.

The Wyoming House of Representatives advanced the legislation on Monday, but eliminated language calling for plans to implement its own military draft, army and acquire an aircraft carrier.

The bill now must pass two more House votes before it would head to the Senate for consideration.

Well, that'll be $12B well-spent. I'd like to see the transport plan for that 100,000 tons of diplomacy. Of course they could drop the propulsion plant and save some $$$ and weight I guess.

Well if things do go Mad Max Batshit it's not such a crazy idea. While many other states will be lands of anarchy they would have some sturcture and in time they could march their army to the west against what will largly be the reminants of Liberal Puss States and in short order will control a sea port for such a warship. Yeah about 1,000,000,000,000. to 1 but shit in history has gone that nuts before.

It be funny watching the Wyoming Navy doing manuvers on land, walking around in clusters with signs saying "Battleship" "Carrier" and " Garbage Scow".

It was a joke. Some Wyoming legislators added the aircraft carrier to the bill to mock the whole idea and defeat the measure. It worked.

"Wyoming lawmakers on Tuesday voted down the state's "Doomsday Bill," which among other things, called for the state to explore buying an aircraft carrier, creating its own currency and starting a military draft for its own army."

"Zwonitzer said the proposals for the state to look into purchasing an aircraft carrier, buying fighter jets, creating a military, launching a draft and creating a currency were added early in the process in order to defeat the bill. He said state lawmakers were surprised by the national media attention, which they aren't used to, following the insertion of the aircraft carrier proposal.

"It was a poison pill," Zwonitzer said of the creation of the state military. "We're a landlocked state that does not need an aircraft carrier."

Wyoming does have a National Guard with Army and Air Force units."
