GHB-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma-Hydroxybutyric_acid
The Wiki is extensive.
I remember there being analogs of GHB in health food stores a few years back.
The idea was a sleep SO sound that you needed someone to wake you in case of a fire.
So,.. you train hard and have sleep issues.. use this,.. recover better.
Millions of things can be used for date rape,.. why was this such a big issue?

Funny story. My friend passed out in the security line at the airport from GHB. Hawaii cops called California cops and they raided his house, found his meth lab, and he ended up with a suspended prison sentence and 3 years house arrest with a monitoring cuff. Live and learn haha.

I'd love to read the probable cause reasoning for the Cali search. Then I'd love to Guillotine the Cali judge who approved it.

Yeah, of course I don't know the particulars. They knew he lived in Cali, was in possession of a large amount of GHB, and they put two and two together. Probably it was the transporting across state lines, now that I think about it.

I'd like to get hold of some of that. I know T200 is a big proponent of using it. And T200 is all-knowing.
EDIT: Check out the thread that talks about shit done while fucked up.

I find it very hard to believe that T200 would have anything to do with drugs.

GHB = REM sleep. Often, though you would take dose, pop up after 4 hours and have to take another dose. Excessive use of GHB also caused prolactin issues in some folks.
Ambien and Lunesta were in coming through trials, and both would put you into REM sleep, so the big pharma companies wanted the cheap and just as effective GHB out of the way.
It was sold in health food stores for like 25 years.
It was also fun to party on, instead of booze, but booze and GHB could be problematic. The actual date rape cases that were shown to use GHB were very, very few.

Shaf summed up the reason. The date rape shit is just how they rally the moms.
GHB is a most beneficial substance.

Renewtrient and other supplements based on furanone were pretty popular back in the late 90's, sold as a GHB substitute. I had some friends pass out in interesting places and situations from mixing a few shots with alcohol, but it did promote some great sleep.

So if someone were given to bouts of insomnia and wanted a supplement to promote deep REM sleep, what would the be go to of choice at the local health food and supplement warehouse?
Nothing habit forming, just something to kick start the sleep cycle again when the insomnia rears it's head.

Not a health food store answer, but Ambien has worked for me.

The better half has had some success with Melatonin. YMMV.

Ambien works for me, too, if by "work" you mean wake up with three strange girls coated in peanut butter and an empty case of dust-off in my bed.

It's a kind of shitty substance if you take it in large amounts or day after day but Somatomax has some significant sleep-enhancing properties.
It is 4-amino-3-phenylbutyric acid...similar to but not near as good as actual GHB. Tastes like salty Tart and Tiny...quite atrocious imo.
You can buy straight caps of phenibut as well.

Also kratom may be of benefit. It induces sleep in many dudes I know who do not take it daily.
It is legal in the US.

i very likely would have completely lost it if it were not for Kratom.

There was an article on the tv at the ER today while I was waiting to get stitched up (don't ask). Said that using any type of sleeping pill (scrip or overcounter) could be lethal if you have any apnea at all since the drug overrides the body's natural tendency to wake up when you stop breathing. Been a significant increase in accidental death as a result.

I have had to put multiple young people on life support (intubation / ventilation) due to GHB overdose because they weren't breathing . GHB is also addictive, with a withdrawal state similar to alcohol (DTs, seizure, deaths have been reported). Both GHB and alcohol work on the GABA system in the brain, so the effects are similar and additive.
