Fair enough, but it doesn't answer my question. Those modern day Mongels are fat fuckers. They could do with doing a 12 day protein diet, or, failing that, join the IGx weight-loss thread. I'll reverse my judgement as to which protocol I believe is more efficient.....

When I was there, in the late 90s, these guys looked the same. They did not eat vegetables. At all. Said they tasted like "dirt." Chickens and pigs were non-existant. They ate cattle and oxen and mostly lamb. I repeat: no vegetables.

But I rode with them over the steppe and they were tough and never tired. Best horsemen I've ever seen seen and I'm from Montana.

I think they looked like this when Genghis and his Golden Horde conquered the known world. From Siberia to Syria. From China to the Adriatic.

Imagine guys who looked like this, riding on you. You're a Han Chinese. Basically, a smaller person. And these guys come riding up, fat smeared on their faces for the sun and wind. Big mofos. The Chinese Wall? A speed bump.

Fat? Out of shape? Go there and ride with these guys. You'll see.

You're right, you've been there, I was just being facetious. These were the people who were to hew out an existence in a place most wouldn't dare. My snide remarks are more a reflection on me than they are on my target.....
