I lost my last pair of lenses and the dog ate my one pair of glasses (seriously), so I am blind as shit today. I used some tech savvy to be able to view my computer screen (ctrl+shift++), but I would like to have some contacts. I ordeerd some and they are supposed to be her soon but in the meantime, I may try making my own.
Any tips?
I figure plastic wrap (seran wrap) is a good place to start.

If you a poke a hole in a piece of paper and look through it, that might be more effective.

Be sure to cover your entire face with it, being sure to get a good seal on your mouth and nose.

I am now looking at the monitor through a piece of paper with a penhole in it. Everything is upside down.

For $30k, Steve Justa will fly over to your house, and make you wish you had never been able to see to surf the web looking for training advice.

Serious question. You can't get a pair of drug store glasses to hold you off? Those cheap reading glasses aren't enough as a stopgap?
Are you confined to your house because of your blindness?

Zenni has some cheap ass glasses. I don't think they're as good as those found in the fancy optical boutiques like Walmart but at a fraction of the cost, who cares?
Will have a report on my own Zenni experiment as soon as they arrive.

I got into the using the
Tibetan Eye Chart from reading Katacombs log. Around the house I now no longer use my contacts. The increase isn't magic but there is a noticeable difference in overall focus.

Turn the paper around, you're probably not holding it right.

Used to be that Wal-Mart would sell cheap safety glasses - about $35.00 a piece. They're ugly as sin but work fine. I think theirpolicy is that if you had an eye check within a year they'll make you a pair.
Why does a guy as blind as you only have a few sets of glasses? Buy a bunch of them and keep your old ones.

Plastic bags from the dry cleaners are fine though if you have a hard prescription it probably won't work.

Cut the bottoms off of those small liquor bottles you get on airplanes. Leave a slightly jagged edge. Press them into your face. Should keep for a couple days.

Pop out your eye balls with a clean spoon. Squash them (a little at first). If you're short-sighted, I think making them "longer" front to back corrects this. Make them "fatter" in the middle for the opposite effect. Play around with it and you could cure or improve things. Wash your hands before doing this. Do one at a time. Good luck, champ.

I've seen people take one of those long grill lighters to their cornea (the heat makes it plasticy and pliable) then mold them into the desired shape (bulgy in the middle, thinner at the edges). Use the blue part of the flame, the orange can cause carbon buildup.
Burn off your eyelashes in advance so there will be no surprises, and try not to blink while working with the lighter lest you cause discomfort to your eyelid.

Just wrap the cellophane around your entire head. That will ensure an even distribution of thickness. About 15 times around ought to do it. Secure it around your chin and forehead with duct tape.

Contacts are actually harvested from felines, so just find a feral cat and take some. The cat will grow new ones within a week, and until then it will emit a stink to ward off predators, so you can steal its contacts guilt free like Benjamin Franklin.
