Deaf people watching the Nelson Mandela memorial were bemused and shocked by a "fake" sign language interpreter on stage whose gestures were unintelligible, activists said Wednesday.

You gotta give this guy credit as con man. International conference likely to be seen all over the world. And he's faking it. Figured no one would know? Said, I suppose: "I'm getting paid." Seems he doesn't care if the world knows. Extends middle finger.

It's awkward enough using ASL with my deaf nephew in public, considering my ignorance (and that I sometimes fuck up the most basic signs). Faking it in front of a world audience? This guy has a future in real estate...

As if this story wasn't strange enough: The "fake" sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela's memorial claims he was in the midst of a schizophrenic episode during the ceremony, causing him to hallucinate and hear voices. Meanwhile, the company that hired the hallucinating interpreter has "vanished."

Nelson Mandela endured through trials and tribulations that would break normal men. And the poor guy's memorial service was turned into an epic shitshow by the President of the United States taking selfies and a deranged, schizophrenic con-man doing a phony sign language pantomime...
It's mind boggling.

People have this idea that it was some kind of big somber thing. It was as much a party/rally/celebration as anything else.
