Why can't it be both?

Young Axl was a badass, and GNR were one of the great rock bands of their era.

Old Axl is a fat fucking joke who tours with dudes named Buckethead.

Because Bud, Axl became a prima-Donna. I mean god DAMN!! Appetite became a hit record, and it was great, but then BOOM!! he's showing up late to shows, being a jerk to the fans, spending too much time sucking Mr. Brownstone's dick... He took that band completely off the rails!!

Watch the old Live at the Roxy they showed on MTV when Appetite started to make waves (and I was an early supporter when the album came out, a year before it became big) Axl's voice cracks up about half way through and Duff does most of the singing with Izzy on backups and they were better without his cat raped by a Mastiff voice.

Like Pearl Jam, another band that let the singer dictate and ruin a good fucking band.

His shit ran Izzy off, Izzy was the main writer in the band.

Would anyone here tolerate that shitty whine, the dancing like a bored stripper coming down from a 3 day coke binge, if not for the great music behind him?

I used to use my EQ to bury his voice under Izzy and Slash.

Axl ruined GNR worse than Dennis DeYoung ruined STYX.

I'm with Bud on this one but also agree with Aggie about Axl being a prima donna. I saw them twice. Once they opened for Motley Crue and blew them off the stage. This was early in the release of Appetite. Then I saw them on the Use Your Illusion tour which I liked a lot. They were supposed to come on at nine and I don't think they came on around eleven. I was pretty drunk and had passed out once before they came on. I don't remember much of the show but I don't think it was that good.

Axl Rose foevah!

Buckethead sucks in the same way Primus sucks.

And once again you're off in regards to Pearl Jam. Man, Eddie Vedder is a great vocalist. Underrated imo.

Veddar is alright when sings but most of the time he's a mumbling fuck.

Before Pearl Jam got famous, Eddie Vedder didn't mumble and act weird. After "Ten" hit the billboard charts, he started with that Asperger's persona.

I was with PJ from the beginning. I was a Mother Love Bone and Green River fan, Temple of the Dog would blast from my room about as much as Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger and Louder than Love and Slayer's Season's in the Abyss.

When Pearl Jam was lead by Gossard and Ament and Eddie was just part of the band, not the everything he became he was a great vocalist and a good front man.

I saw them at the Cameo Theater in Miami Beach (before it was dubbed South Beach) in April of 92 and it was one of the top 5 shows of my life. The kind of show that makes you believe Rock and Roll can change the World.

Saw them at Lollapalooza 92 and Ed was standing on his soapbox a bit too much, he got a few Boos and "Shut your mouth and sing , Hippie!" they were decent but nothing like in April.

He's such a self important cunt and the band's music has suffered overall with him as the leader. When McCready did Mad Season and Gossard did Brad I was hoping they'd leave PL. Mad Season was a sick album.

Remember, we are talking art and not the bizz aspect or the image for girls who are told what's good but judgeing music for what it is with a seasoned ear and a history of seeking out music and not just waiting for MTV to tell you it's cool.

Axl is my favorite defender of Danish giraffes.

In this capacity he has no equal.

I would suggest that Axl has reached self actualizaton.

Rock stars should die at, or immediately after, the apex of their fame.

I think Guns and Fucking Roses got the career they deserved. Appetite was just absolutely perfect: production, execution, everything. And the Use Your Illusions were the perfect slightly-to-moderately bloviating big rock followups that caught a band on the descent but just before its big sleep commenced in earnest. I feel like things happened the way they were supposed to for all parties involved.

The Cult kicked their ass!

And this was the real era of Slayer  and Metallica  before they got their Danzig mixed with their Lynard Skynard and ended up sounding like a half assed ZZ Top so if you put GnR in the top colum, you were a faggot poser. :finga:

"GnR is so hard! They Rock man."

"That's the problem you have, you think that shit is hard so other soft shit to you is hard, like your dick. That's why I fucked your girlfriend at the party last week when you passed out after 4 beers. She wanted it HARD!" :supz:

Cowboys From Hell came out, then Vulgar Display and the landscape changed as a result of those two records as well.
