May you each be written and inscribed for a sweet and happy year.

Thanks for the kind wishes Hammer.
This is the day when you guys spit on the ground, spin around three times and throw eggs on your shoes, right?

While Andy's a stand-up MOT, he's not a reliable source for our customs and traditions. I think he's pulling your leg again, unless this is a tradition special to his ancestors.
We do get to sing this tune a few times

Do they do that dance where the guy sits in the chair and everybody sings and lifts the chair up off the ground and carries him around and stuff?

No. the chair thing is for weddings. Rosh Hashana is the beginning of ten days of repentance leading to Yom Kippur, which kicks off with this tune.

Have fun moving your head around to transfer your sins to a chicken which you then give to the poor to eat.

Finally, an educated IGX'r, though the tactical technique is to maintain good posture, neutral head, and move the chicken.

Not politically correct or PETA-approved, but the Yom Kippur tradition, still observed by many, is to use a chicken, which is then slaughtered and given to a poor family for the pre-fast meal.
More modern practice is just to give charity for a poor family to purchase the meal.
I usually try to go the chicken route. It helps put one in the frame of mind that life is fragile, and we don't know our fate in the upcoming year.

Obama's speech to the UN was awe inspiring thrill up your leg about HIS utopian world that HE will make happen before he leaves office. I thought it was really beautiful when all them foreigners jumped up cheering and hugging each other, then linked arms and sang Kumbaya as they lifted him up on a chair while he beheaded a chicken and sprinkled them with its blood and feathers. May this Nobel Laureate for Peace live on forever and he then said excuse me now, I have some countries to bomb.

Hey Pete(HH) I watched "Defiance" on Netflix the other night. 4 Jewish brothers protect over 1000 Jewish refugees from the Nazi death camps during WWII. A true story. Excellent! If you haven't seen it, you should by all means!
If you don't have Netrtflix, spring for it. Only 7 bucks a month for unlimited movies.
PS Obama likes muslims way better'n Jews.
