so these two guys have succeeded in some heretofore-impossible climb of el capitan. (articles are everywhere. their reaching the top is featured on the patagnia site.)
it's an amazing feat to me. does this sort of achievement grab your attention, too?

I dig stuff like this, yeah. Man and nature, surmounting the insurmountable. I always enjoy reading about stuff like this, especially when it comes to mountain climbing.
My all time favorite was the guy who was born with stumps for arms and legs, who crawled up Mount Kilimanjaro. That story video were damned inspiring, and awesome.

Getting a lot of local news coverage out here.
Definitely grabs my attention. El Capitan is a beast and I can't believe those guys gutted it out like they did. Way cool.

I, for one, never thought it was even possible to do that. I'd love to see a documentary about this big achievement.

seems to me that paradoxically physical feats like this are about 75% mental.
makes me realize my mind is weak.

Unless you have actually tried climbing like this - it's impossible to comprehend how hard this was. Maybe think of doing a set of 20 COC 3.5 grippers closes where every 5th rep is with a #4 gripper - for hours each day (or night) - and then for days on end. While sleeping way up in the air under less than ideal conditions - with less than ideal food - all with stress and some degree of danger. Then imagine someone skinning your fingertips and still doing it again the next day - and the next etc. My hat's off to them.

The first time I saw this thread I thought it said, "Climbing the Damn Wall" which probably makes more sense anyway.
