Cuba vs Saudi Arabia

With God’s help a free Cuba is what we will soon achieve,” Trump said at the Manuel Artime Theater
Speech in Saudi Arabia
"We are not here to lecture - we are not here to tell other people how to live, what to do, who to be, or how to worship."
Not picking on Trump here, it's been the standard since forever. But the hypocrisy is pretty painful to watch. How many acts of terrorism have been committed by Cubans versus Saudis?

Because History.

And if Trump brings some heat onto the Castro Regime and negotiates a few more liberties for poverty-stricken & oppressed Cubans, I can wait for my imported cigars.

This is not an argument, because we shouldn't be supporting either regime, but Cuba supported a lot of terrorism. Especially in the 70's and 80's. Marxist Guerillas in Central and South America (the Cinchoneros, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Venezuela). The Puerto Rican terror groups that struck the U.S. (frequently NY) were armed trained and funded by the Cubans as well.

revisiting cuba's support for s. am. rebels takes us back to contras, pinochet, and such. i'm not picking sides, just saying, all were bad actors, whether supported by cuba (russia) or u.s.

as for trump's sympathy for the poor and oppressed in cuba, i am unconvinced. he has shown no interest in the poor and oppressed here.

trump and the republicans can make an argument based on u.s. self-interest (not sure i'd be persuaded) or based on trump's political interest, but they can't expect any rational human to accept moral arguments from them, should they try to make morality the basis for their actions.

A bunch of voters in Florida want him to give the finger to the Cuban Government.

We've been bringing the heat since the Bay of Pigs, without any success. I am ready for Plan B. The height of stupidity is to do the same thing and expect a different outcome.

I'd love to go tripping around Cuba on pennies a day, spreading the gospel of the free market.

I was on Det to NAS Key West the day the Cuban pilot flew his plane there. Got to poke around at it (MIG-23) before the Cuban military came over to retrieve it. That was cool.

oh, let's not forget conflict of interest:
President Trump has done business with royals from Saudi Arabia for at least 20 years, since he sold the Plaza Hotel to a partnership formed by a Saudi prince. Mr. Trump has earned millions of dollars from the United Arab Emirates for putting his name on a golf course, with a second soon to open.
he's just setting the stage for his bratty sons to do a fat deal for a resort in cuba

Cuba has surplus doctors and nurses (which we need), and if they ever get a medical tourism system set up, they'll make bank. All Saudi can offer us is a commodity we can either pump ourselves or get from dozens of other countries.
