This is one of those "Fantasy War Books" that Peach says I read=)

GREAT READ!

It's a collection of oral and written first hand accounts of the lead up and Invasion, very well done.

It reminds you of when a free nation could bring itself to conquer continents, go Sherman on the enemies civillians and do what has to be done to put down mad man.

Read this book.

P.S. It was a trip reading this while I was going through food poisoning last week, being sick gives you a viseral for the seesickness and fear that these men suffered while chargeing down Hitler's teeth.

I'm re-reading this now. Something blows me away on each page. The matter-of-factness with which these guys tell their stories is amazing. Most excellent book.

Have you ever read "My Commando Operations" by Otto Skorzeny? Same vibe...did some ridiculous shit and just sort of nonchalant about the whole thing.

No I have not, I'll put that on my "POV of the Enemy" reading list, of wich Soldat is my top, just waiting for a buddy to get done reading his copy.

Samurai, about a WW2 Japanese flying ace was bad ass.

Hadn't heard of the Skorzeny book either. The Amazon description sounds pretty amazing, though. Thanks for the rec.

Ditto.

Darth, you ever read "My reminscences of East Africa" by Paul Von Lettow Vorbeck? Another damn fine book in a slightly different vein.

Tiger Ace is another insane story, most decorated Panzer officer.

Dive Bomber about Ernst Rudel....crazy shit

The Blond Knight of Germany: Erich Hartmann (all time scoring ace of WW2)

There were some incredible badasses on both sides of that war.

Marine! (Let. Gen. Chesty Puller)

Night Fighter (Cf Ranwsey)...insane night intercept missions

30 Seconds Over Tokyo (Doolittle Raid)
