PJ Harvey's "White Chalk"

This is her new album. If you're a fan, get it NOW.
It's unlike anything else she's done (except maybe "Dancehall at Louse Point") but it's PJ all the way. Quiet, mostly acoustic, reminiscent of murder ballads, and a couple bear more than a passing resemblance to 16HP's quieter numbers. And that voice of hers is there, from a husky whisper to a shriek.
I guess you could listen to some singles on Youtube, but really it's not the same; it'd be like listening to cuts from "Tommy" or "The Wall." They're fine by themselves but they're part of a larger story and experience.
Strap on the headphones, lay down in the dark, and listen to it from beginning to end.

I have read a few different reviews that say essentially the same thing. Plan on picking it up soon.

Scrawny little Welsh waif who grew up in Bumfuck on a sheep farm. Fortunately her parents were big blues fans.
The above vid is not from "White Chalk," but it demonstrates how we're all Polly Jean's bitches, it's just that some of us don't know it yet.

AFAIK PJH isn't big with the lesbian crowd. She's also straight; she and Nick Cave were making the depressive with two backs for a while.
In a 3-way death match with Melissa Etheridge and the Indigo Girls, PJ would win via hidden straight razor.
