Winograd Commission Report

I haven't yet found the interim or final Winograd Comission reports in English, but the Commission published English summaries, which are hot linked below. They're excellent summaries, and I'm using them for teaching my Sunday School class tomorrow.

The reports are remarkable to read, to think a democratically elected government would appoint an independent commission to inquire freely and issue a completely independent report. The interim report brought the resignation of the Chief of Staff and the Minister of Defense. Whether the Prime Minister will survive the final report is still undecided. Israel had a similar commission after the Yom Kippur War, and the Agranat Report resulted in the downfall of Prime Minister Golda Meir and the military Chief of Staff.

This is part of the ethic of a warrior code with a civilian army. It's hard to imagine an American President and his joint chiefs allowing such a commission. But, reading the reports, you get the sense that this is the right and honorable way to deal with decisions of life and death and survival or defeat.

I can't really seen PeTe's post, but let me see if I can guess: a shallow gloss over the implications of the Winograd report, a sweeping under the rug of the vast failures of the civilian and military leadership of Hebrewland, followed by a laudatory paean to the Great Society that is the Zionist Entity. Is that it?
