"The Ruins"

My Sweetie read the book by Scott Smith last year and I didn't get much out of her except "American college students. Mayan ruins. They're stupid and annoying and I want them all to die."

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0963794/

So, we netflixed the movie that came out. Meh, it's not bad, but at least it's not another installment of "torture chic."

Five American college students on vacation in Mexico decide to go off to some "undiscovered" Mayan pyramid ruins with a German student they run into.
Long story short, the ruins are infested by nasty man-eating things. And the students are all confined on the pyramid by the local Indians, who have taken the job of making sure that what's in the pyramid never escapes.

The students aren't completely stupid, at least not after their initial decision to go traipsing off into the jungle, completely unprepared and ill-equipped. It's a reasonably diverting movie to have on while you're doing something else, but don't go driving across town to find it.

DATE-MOVIE WARNING: we got the unrated version, which has some VERY nasty, graphic scenes of amputation and other last-ditch surgery attempts. I mean, it's as nasty and graphic as you can get. Denuded bone, dangly bits of rotting flesh, screaming, spurting, you name it. So be warned.

I'm trying to remember... I think it was with my sweetie's zucchini bread (I grew the zucchini, of course) and an experiment in hyppocras.
