Doomsday

Not bad. No good.

Unrated version had a lot of gratuitous gore.

Action: Good.
Premise: Good.
Acting: Mediocre
Script: Bunch of silly stuff in it. For example, the armor plated vehicles they used apparently weren't fireproof, nor did they have bulletproof glass, since any asshole with a stick was able to break through them. Apparently savage Scots immune to a virus weren't afraid of automatic weapon fire, either, and gleefully flung themselves into streams of bullets.

In spots it was a blatant tribute to The Road Warrior.

I heard that it was a blatant ripoff/hodgepodge of RW and "28 Days." Everyone I know who saw it said it was unbelievably stupid. It's one of those "Netflix desperation" movies for me.

Yeah, you could say that...I couldn't think of the other movie it reminded me of, but, yeah, 28 Days Later would have been it.

It was very cookie cutter and predictable. The tech was stupid in many areas. The motivation of people were stupid too.

The Road Warrior rip off scenes were extremely blatant...almost like a goofy homage to it, just not as good.

Well, sadly enough, I rather enjoyed this film. Stupid though it may have been (and no one here is arguing that fact; it certainly wasn't Masterpiece Theater), it entertained me for a couple hours - which is all I can really ask of a movie.

As far as the various 'homages', I saw the following, at least: Definitely Road Warrior (most obviously the chase at the end); some Escape From New York (most notably the 'stage show' - complete with singing and dancing - presented by the villians, and perhaps the heroine's gladiator-type fight with the big, armored guy); and no small degree of Aliens (even to the point of lifting dialogue and scenes from it: "Check those corners!" and squashing one of the enemy under the wheels of the APC).

I netflixed this out of boredom. Did JS and other stuff while watching.

Wow, is it bad. I have to admit one thing: even though the first 1/2 hour went from "28DL" to "Escape from NY" to "Aliens," it didn't totally SUCK. They even ripped off the musical stylings of John Carpenter, but it had its moments.

Then the cannibals, led by Steve Maxwell in a white mohawk, show up, and the movie turns to total shit. Bad "Road Warrior," then it segues into bad "EscapeNY" and bad "Braveheart/Excalibur," and it just keeps getting worse and worse. By the end, all pretense of plot or coherence has been discarded. Shit blows up. People get crushed, burned, impaled, and whatnot.

RAAAAAAAR! 300 CHALLENGE!

Oh, and the movie's two redeeming features: her tits:

Nah, lots of males, otherwise you're on the money. And why do they like '80s music so much?

Side note: the Colonial Marines (oh wait, they're just British soldiers) seem to be using experimental APC's made of cheese and stiff cardboard. I could cut my way into one of them with a butter knife.

OTOH, the car Our Heroine finds (and starts right up after it's been sitting in storage for 20 years) appears to be made of adamantium. Totally fucking indestructible, like the punk girl's tits up above.

(Yes, I know they're fake, but they look so lovely in her pigeon-skin Wonderbra!)

All I ask is.

1. Be realistic
2. Or at least consistent.

And show more of that big tittied cannibal bitch's tits. NOMNOMNOM

Amen. I was annoyed to see that in yet another example of the New Lame-Ass Puritanism, the "Unrated" edition had no skin, just lots more exploding heads, impalements, roasting, decapitation, etc.

Violence is good, but sex or nudity is bad.

Trouble with violence in movies is that somehow some very vocal people said how cool movies like Hostel were, and now we've got this gory, torture violent subgenre.

Now dumbasses like Doomday's directors think they have to get up on that level to compete, when, in reality, a good movie is almost always story and character driven.

The original, Mad Max, is a brutal movie with brutal scenes, and they filmed it perfectly, where you had just the right amount of fascinated horror with what was going on, yet it didn't distract you from the heroics of the main characters.
