Looper

I went with my wife, which pretty much ruined the experience. No fault of hers, I just knew that it wasn't a movie she was going to like after about 5 minutes in. She kept unconsciously sending out "I wish I was watching Trouble With The Curve" vibes like one of those microwave crowd control devices, but stuck it out.

So i'm looking forward to watching it again when it comes out on cable, because there's some there there. The treatment of time travel and the effect of the younger version of the protagonist on the older was unique. The hero of the story was basically a bad person in both young and old version, but with good attributes. Some good dialog and good action. Jeff Daniels is great. A whole bunch of the bit parts are well acted. There's a young freaky kid that is a great character. I'll give it a tentative 3 of 4 stars, final review TBD.

I saw it a few weeks ago...agree with your assessment however my wife was cool with it so no issues there. It was a "deeper" flick than either of us anticipated. Although there was plenty of action it was much more thoughtful movie. It got me thinking about the last serious time travel movie I saw and never fully got: Primer. Watch this and break it down...I'm 83.3 percent there.

How does this compare to Synecdoche, NY?

I can't express how glad I am that you asked that question

Whereas in Synedoche NY the protagonist creates an alternative, replicative universe in his play and then interacts with himself (the actor who is playing him in the play) in Loopers the protagonist interacts with himself by actually interacting with an older version of himself. After failing to give him a shotgun blast in the chest. The movies are otherwise identical.

Was it better than Time Cop?

Unless someone way cooler than JCVD is doing the shirtless suspended splits thingy then no movie is better than Time Cop. No shirtless splits in Looper so there's your answer.

Finally watched this the other day. I turned on the captions and pretended it was French and subtitled, eliminating the need for realistic dialog or consistent logic.
