Pretty damn good. Different from a usual Star Wars movie. Feels more like one of those old WW2 movies, where a ragtag crew goes on a dangerous mission behind enemy lines, to blow up a dam or knock down a bridge or something. Same feeling of desperation and great risk. Similar body count.

My wife loved it, my 7yo son liked it. Honestly I don't think he knew what to make of it. Takes a while for the story to come together, and no familiar characters for him to latch onto. But there's a shit-ton of action in the second half, and he was bouncing in his seat and acting out some of the moves during that stuff. Afterward, he gave it two thumbs up.

Some very damn fine action in it, esp from the Asian guy with the staff. The robot's hilarious. The kid from The Night Of plays a cargo pilot with important into to share.

Surprised no one else here has seen/commented on it.

I am conflicted. On the one hand I really liked it. On the other I didn't.

I felt that the story and action were all good. Loved the ending. The final 1/3 was outstanding. But I could not get behind the characters. I never really figured out what was going on with the girl. What was her motivation. Why was I supposed to care about her. Same thing with the main rebel guy. There was just something off with them.

But I liked it, I am glad I saw it, and I will see it again.

Funny, it is the same thing with the Force Awakens, only the opposite. With the Force Awakens there was just something off about the plot, pacing and action, but I loved the characters (Even Kylo Renn). With this one, loved the plot, pacing, and action, but there was something with the characters (even the villains) I couldn't connect with.

Underwhelming. The Dirty Dozen in the Star Wars setting should have been awesome. The actors were miscast and had zero chemistry, I couldn't care less about them. You could see what they were going for with the story, "I've done bad things for the good guys, I've done good things for the bad guys." The arcs were never completed. A lot of the supporting characters never had that one pivotal seen that made you be invested in their character. The action, especially the third act was excellent.

I agree with the criticism but it doesn't ruin the movie. The problem is everyone has an idealized version of the movies in their head, often formed when quite young

This. Episode IV hasn't aged well.

I loved it and will see it again.

Liked it. Knowing they were all going to die helped.

@fit and Rogue Barbell continue to expand their deviltry. No way.

I enjoyed it, even though they clearly decide not to invest in characters that would only appear in one film.

I disagree with you - I still like the first Star Wars. They fucked up the dvd by adding Jabba The Hut - that surprised me, truly.

I just watched Rogue One and my son loved it. I did not (but kept my mouth shut around him - I try not to ruin movies for him and my wife). I feel like a lot of people here - the characters just weren't appealing and if you go in knowing pretty much everyone will die, it doesn't help.

Seeing a young (CG) Carrie Fisher was the only moving thing for me.

I liked it. I even liked Ip Man being the blind kung fu master

If someone edits out everything but forrest whitaker I still won't watch but it will be the best possible form of this crap.

Why do stormtroopers have all that armour and it cant take one round? How can it not take the impact of a fucking stick?

Why put sensitive controls (antenna and comm) in random places on the beach or a platform to no where suspended 500 feet off the ground?

Should have just watched Spaceballs again.
