They're gonna do their best to mitigate even mild protests. Massive, tall, thick-boy metal fences and barricades completely surround the United Center. The "protest zone" was mandated to be roughly a mile & a half away from anything real. They went to such drastic measures because they know how prone to eating their own the Left is. It's all gonna be lefty on lefty. Some gal with a butch cut and a covid mask rushed the stage last night to yell her biz re: Israel, so it's already on. Say what you will about the repubs, but you get a buncha those folks together and it's all love. It's a fucking party. Get a buncha lefties together and it's a dick measuring contest to see who's the most left. It's gonna be pretty entertaining however it breaks.

I was wrong. The cops managed to lock down the place without beating up too many people or kicking off riots. And the hordes that I thought would show up didn't. It probably helped that they didn't let anything get organized too close to the convention.
The MSM was sooo wanting there to be something. They played up the "protesters storm barricades near the United Center" angle for a bit and I took the bait to see . . .cops calmly putting the barriers back up. Ultimately probably fewer people went to jail than in a usual four day stretch in Chicago.
