Just. Plain. Awesome.
And I have no idea why this is sideways. Freaky, as the photo opens in proper orientation. Oh swell.

I typically shun things like this but decided to give it a try at dinner last night....magnifico!
Beer Advocate wrote:Borne of our brewers’ many trips to Germany, Alpine Spring features a unique blend of lager attributes: the balanced maltiness and hoppiness of a Helles, the smoothness and slightly higher alcohol of a traditional spring bock, and the unfiltered appearance of a Kellerbier. The beer is brewed with Noble Tettnang hops to add a unique, bright orange-citrusy aroma and flavor.

Re: Beer!!!
An interesting read from the Economist about the importance of beer in Belgium and why the beer tends to be very very good.

Flossmoor Station Brewing:
IPA-- impressive for a midwestern IPA
Brown-- more flavor than I expected, and a nice aftertaste. I liked it, and I'm not generally a brown fan.
Another big plus: the brewpub has growlers.

Totally unimpressed, for those who like the idea of Guniness but can't stand the taste; another gimmick like Guiness Draft.protobuilder wrote:Ed Zachary wrote:Guinness black lager

Drake's 1500. Brewed here in the Bay Area in San Leandro.
Not sure if it's been mentioned but I like it quite a bit. Dry. Hoppy. Nice.
Great to put back one or two, or ten or twelve depending on your evening's plans.

Hofstettner Kubelbier, a kellerbier. And the pale Bock is excellent also, dry hopped (unusual for a German/Austrian lager) with Safyr hops.

In Terneuzen, The Netherlands a decade ago, which is close to Brugge, Belgium, I was besieged by local favorite after local favorite. I cannot remember the beer I liked best, because I had to be helped home by 2 prostitutes and the local ecstasy and soft drug dealer.

The convenience store had Sam Adams Oktoberfest in sixers on my way home today. This hellish summer is nearly over.protobuilder wrote:i can't wait for summer to end so we can have our good fall/winter/oktoberfest beers again

Re: Beer!!!
Haven't tried the Shipyard Oktoberfest, but I've like the other things of theirs I've had. Sam's Oktoberfest is one I look forward to all year. Really wish I could find a pub near me that had it on tap.

Re: Beer!!!
Sam Octoberfest is the only SA seasonal that I really like. The Shipyard is just a pumpkin ale, it tastes like nutmeg, pumpkin, cinnamon soda. They're made even worse w/ cinnamon sugar rims and further sickening sweet w/ shots of vanilla vodka.
The DFH Punkin and Souther Tier Pumpking weren't bad last year, IIRC.

Re: Beer!!!
Tonight I'm on Thwaites Old Dan (7.5%) and Goose Island India Pale Ale; an American brew no less....
Thwaites may not travel far, but if you see this and can stand stronger ales then I heartily recommend it. It's fucking divine.
Goose Island is reminiscent of Jaipur ale, (the brewery eludes me for now but I think it's a Derbyshire one, and is Oz Clarke's favourite ale). I could probably knock a few of these back, but it's not a bona fide 'session' ale imo. One to savour instead. Good shit actually, I never knew US beers were like this, partly because they get grouped in with the continental lagers in the supermarket..
Anyway, I love you all. You're my best friends.

LOL
Odin is a happy drunk.
And although I haven't had the pale ale I've had a couple of other Goose Island brews and they are consistently good.
I love this stuff.
