Whitney Houston's music wasn't my style, but there is no denying that she had one of the greatest singing voices ever. Sad to see someone flush it all away too soon.

Drugs are bad.

WFT IGX, Etta James died a few weeks back and no one mentioned it. Whitney dies and I've already read two separate threads about it.

@fit partially to blame...
The visibly bloated singer displayed erratic behavior throughout the afternoon... skipping around the ballroom in a child-like fashion and wandering aimlessly about the lobby. It was mentioned by a Grammy staffer that security personnel received calls of the singer doing handstands by the pool.

I received a text message joke about her death before I actually heard she had died. Whoever thinks these gags up is fucking quick off the mark...

btw, for those interested it was; "Bobby Brown has been found dead in a hotel room bath, having apparently taken his own life. A suicide note read '2 can play that game'...".

Didn't have a fucking clue what it meant until I switched on the tv. Too quick.

Some entertainment huckster was on the radio saying we'd always remember where we were when we heard Whitney was dead. "Just like Michael Jackson."

Shyeah! As IF.

RIP etc.

I'm kind of surprised by the reactions in this thread.

She wasn't like Michael Jackson, but her talent was undeniable and I see her situation as tragic.

Her appearance on Letterman in 1985 has to be one of the best performances on that type of show (Letterman, Leno, maybe Carson but I am unfamiliar with his show) ever.

baffled,

doped up entertainer dies (sort of) young.

surprise? tragedy? cliche?

my kid was reminding of the time on her and bobby brown's reality show when she kept telling him she really had to take a dump. a telling example of a major problem of our times: too much information.

As the Grammy's becomes an impromptu memorial service tonight, I wonder if anyone will have the integrity to mention that drug abuse is bad for a career and staying alive.

DMW,
Can I pick "D: all of the above?" I have a hard time these days celebrating anyone's death, with very few exceptions. There are people I won't miss, and Whitney Houston honestly is one of those, but I see the sadness as a lost parent, and the potential to be an enduring icon that was flushed because of crack or whatever she and Bobby were into.

Dr. Donk,
Doubt it.

Bob,
I was shocked as well.

At least she died doing what she loved

....which I presume was some large quantity of heroin/cocaine/booze/etc

All the musicians there think they have the constitutions of Keith Richards-- so it will likely be ineffective.

This is pretty GD funny
http://www.wwtdd.com/2012/02/the-kick-d ... y-houston/

When Whitney Houston was found dead on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton at the age of 48, early reports suggested she may have fallen asleep or blacked out in the bathtub and drowned. Oh but you’ll never guess why she blacked out. Not in a million years.

Whitney Houston’s family was told by L.A. County Coroner officials she did not die from drowning, but rather from what appears to be a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol … this according to family sources (and TMZ).

Which Radar pretty much confirms:

Houston had “a plethora of sedatives including Lorazepam, Valium, Xanax, and a sleeping medication that was found in her hotel room,” a law enforcement source tells us.

So there you go. Whitney Houston got drunk and high and drowned. It’s like if Tyler Perry had made ‘Inception’.
