Last night, the family gathered to say goodbye to our fifteen year old girl, Sonya. Sweet-tempered, with an iron core and gameness. In her prime, she was quick, agile, and graceful.

Man, it hurts when they go. But the joy of having a dog is worth it.

My dog had surgery yesterday, and seems to now be doing well. At 8 years old he is starting to have a few health problems. Thinking about it, I would sooner die before he does rather than be there when his time comes. I could deal better with the death of a person.

Our GSD just had to have surgery a couple of weeks ago. He just turned 9 last week. He recovered fully and it was like nothing ever happened as far as he's concerned. But 9 is getting up there for a GSD, even though we got him from working lines in Belgium. I'm dreading the day we have to say goodbye. Not sure what I'll do without Samson around.

The Vet said there was no need for my dog to wear a collar to prevent him bothering the stitches. I had asked about the need for a collar. This morning my dog pulled out the stitches with his teeth opening up the incision. I had to go back and this time staples were used and a colalr fited. Why on earh was this not done the first time? The dog is extremely lively and flexible and was very likey to bother the incision. He cn easily reach any part of his body other than the back of his neck. I will look for another Vet.
