My Lady and I watched a doc on this man on Pentagon channel Friday night.
Just blows you away. When you watch some of the men who served with him and some that he saved it chokes you up.

Christian faithful & cultists take a lot of shit on IGx, but none of us would make a pimple on Desmond Doss' ass. The man was a hero.
RIP

He does sound like an amazing soldier.
Alvin York was a c.o. also. At least he was when he was drafted.

It takes a certain level of civilization to respect a man like Doss. In other words, other guys had to kill a lot of Japs & Nazis so Doss could be a CO.
Respect to all who served in that horrible war, whether they took lives or saved them.

Very cool, I had not heard of them. I agree with your observation Johno, since I can't see my way through to that level of nonviolence but I certainly respect his commitment and courage.

I see your point Johno but at least he did not use his faith as an excusse to stay home and play Jodi. If your not going to kill than at least save lives.
You should have seen the documentary and heard the eyewitness accounts of this mans bravery.
His Battlion Co. derided him stateside for not carrying a weapon but in Okinawa he said he was the bravest man he ever knew. He pulled 75 men off of a cliff by lowering them down with a rope, expossed to Jap fire the whole time. One Jap reported that he sighted down on him 3 times and each time he pulled the trigger his weapon missfired.
A Marine Maj from our old Dojo said his Dad was a Company Co. in WW2 and he had a handfull of C.O.'s. He made them all work with the medics and said that they all perforemd with high valour.
Hey , you know me, not being able to drill 5.56mm into the faces of Jawa scum is my biggest regret,I'm all for killing those who need killing but the story of Doss had me and my Lady in awe.
