Grew up in Johnstown in that area. Played Mohawk and Herkimer in all HS sports.

Do you know Westmoreland? Lived there for 9 months out of the year from 6 to 12 year old.

It's ironic that this happened where it did. Herkimer, Mohwak, and Ilion are almost adjacent to each other. Ilion has a big Remington plant, (home of the infamous Bushmaster) that IS the economic backbone of the community (aside from dairy farming of coarse).
Gov. Cuomo has been silent regarding anything gun control related about this latest horror. Could be the huge shit he's received from his recent initiative, could be that the killer didn't use a "scary" weapon, and it could really be that other states are lobbying hard to steal the Remington plant.
Upstate NY has a combination of some of the most beautiful scenery in the country combined with a super shitty sclerotic economy that may be beyond recovery.

The loss of Griffis AFB and Kelsey-Hayes has destroyed that place. That and the way the Dems have fucked the state, their shitbag un constitutional gun laws is a mjor reason I wont go back to live.
If it was like it was growing up, I'd give it a shotbecause the outdoors in the MV and with in an easy drive is awesome.
I miss the fuck out of cross country skiing. Great exercise and I could get the fuck away from everyone. A small pack with food and water and a rifle and it felt great.
I was really into that the last 3 years before I left for So Fla. (and the shock that came with it and the wonderfull anti Kazes that made me Darth.)
Hell I had a friend from grade school up there friend request me today. Made my day if not my week as I loved that dude. It was almost as cool as seeing WGM's page and misspelling some shit for his viewers.
