What's the IGx read on this Tony Stewart fiasco?

I'm not a NASCAR guy at all but I'm wondering...he might not have "intentionally" run over the kid but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't one of those...oh he's going to point his figer at me?? Let's just see how close I can get to him BAM. How can you not open a criminal investigation?

I won't watch the video - my Horror File is full enough already. But, if Stewart intentionally made any move to scare or hurt Kevin Ward, manslaughter charges should result.
Unless Stewart is too much of a Big Deal, in which case he can get media sympathies about how the incident has traumatized him.

The kid who got out of his car is a Darwin Award candidate, but I'm pretty sure Tony didn't do everything possible to ensure he got by him safely. You can hear the engine getting gunned as he sucks him up underneath the car. I agree, how can you not investigate?

I don't follow racing. Can someone explain to me what the fuck Stewart was doing racing in what looks like a country fair the night before a major, big $ professional race?

Don't go into a gunfight with a pocket knife.

So the dude has an accident invoving another racer, exits his disabled car, and instead of getting his ass the fuck off the track, he walks out to the middle and tries to call-out the other driver??
What a rube... What did he think was gonna happen?

Hey now hold on a sec...yeah, the kid got out of his car and did some some finger pointing but this happens somewhat regularly i.e. drivers getting out and throwing their helmet at the other driver, flipping them off etc. so what the youngster did was not unprecidented. Foolish, of course. NASCAR will not ever admit it but I believe they love the amped up animosity some of the drivers display towards each other and the print media for sure plays it up to get more people to watch.

Probably that he'd not be murdered.

Not unprecedented!!?? (I don't watch NASCAR or auto racing of any kind)
Seriously?
I'm not saying the poor, stupid bastard deserved to die. Not saying that at all... BUT, losing your shit and walking out into the middle of a track where cars are whizzing by you WFO is a dumb thing to do, and this guy is a dumb motherfucker.

Appreciated, but dude, the retaining wall on the other side of the car, which he could have scaled in order to get his ass to safety was one Hell of a lot shorter a walk than the middle of the track...
His Ego made him into a victim and it shouldn't have happened that way.

He basically ran himself over. This is Tony being careful to avoid oncoming traffic.
Reminds of all the tennis assholes that popped up after McEnroe made it OK to throw tantrums.

Neither of them was as stupid as both of them together.

Stewart claims that type of racing is the hardest and says he does it to keep his reflexes and instincts sharp.
You do drive those cars almost as much by throttle as you do steering wheel
I don't know if there are radio communications to the drivers from spotters / pit crews, whether he would have had any announcement.
I believe the race was under a caution at the time, that means be extra aware and extra safe. My personal opinion is Stewart wanted to scare him a little and it went bad. Only Stewart and God know the truth of it though. At Stewart's level and experience, crap like that just should not happen.

It seems all the other drivers stayed to the inside of the track and here comes stewart mid-track, heading outwards. How was that "cautious"

I'm no lawyer, but this seems like it would be a very expensive case to prosecute, and I'm not sure that the local resources are that deep, or that they're even reasonably confident that they could get a conviction. My guess is that Stewart is now endorsement poison, and will soon be out of racing.

Dr. A, I realize you're not being snarky but just know when there's a wreck on the track there's all kinds of people out running around so being on the track on foot is not some exceptional occurrence. These are professional drivers and there's a system in play when this happens. The yellow flag comes out and they're not racing any longer...they slow down, maintain position...someone correct me if I'm wrong but you can pit during a caution but you lose your position. The kid didn't jump into traffic while racing was still going on. I agree with Cubed...he meant to scare him and he fucked it up.

Turd...this will be real interesting from a marking perspection. Stewart is actually an owner as well as a driver. He's vertically integrated through the whole thing. There'll be a lot of people looking for work if he's done. And he's one of the most popular drivers in NASCAR.

I grok what you're saying. Definitely. And let me state for the record that if I were in the position of the driver who struck him, I would not have made any maneuvers to Try and scare him. Nafod is right that the dumbness of both combined was a bad thing.

Good points, I wasn't aware of all that. Maybe he can pull a Ray Lewis. I find it interesting that most of the talking heads who are offering opinions out there are people who most likely wouldn't be caught dead at a NASCAR event. I hope he can survive all this, the guy clearly loves racing.

At a certain level. it's all throttle steering..
Watched the vid a bunch. I think this is about right. It was under caution, Stewart was going way too fast for yellow and tried to scare the guy. Whhooops. Dead.
