Dogs on treadmills?

Soggy Northwest weather made my backyard a mud pit.
Anyone use a treadmill to exercise his dogs? Please tell me the pros & cons, etc. Cesar Millan recommends it, FWIW.

I've seen it twice.
In both instances the owners said the dogs really liked it. I saw one begging to have it turned on.
I suppose that doesn't make it really any different than selecting something like this for people.

I've been out of the racket for 10+ years now (time flies), but it was very popular with 'sport dogs', i.e. Schutzhund dogs. You need to *never* forget your dog's on a treadmill. One of my friends (a really good guy) had a horrific strangulation experience of his dog by taking a cell phone call only to come back and find his dog dead and thumping about the treadmill pad....can't make this shit up, lie-men.

I'll mark that down as a "con." I'm not a great multi-tasker, so I couldn't leave the room for a second.

I think the elliptical would give a better full-body workout. Jmo

I suppose that assuming the dog likes the treadmill, you could ultimately do it without tethering a leash to the treadmill, but I can't say I recall knowing of any dogs liking it all that much.

The treadmill thing might be worth a try. Thanks.

I happened to see a dog treadmill at a dog training facility today. It has one of those magnetic kill switches you tether to the dog's leash.

That makes sense. I'm going back far enough (early 2000's) where they didn't have those.
Then again, I can see a dog quickly learning how to kill the treadmill by switch removal.....
Whatevs.
