Perseverance, nicknamed Percy, is a car-sized Mars rover designed to explore Jezero crater on Mars as part of NASA's Mars 2020 mission. It was manufactured by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and was launched on 30 July 2020, at 7:50 a.m. EDT (11:50 UTC), and is scheduled to land on Mars on 18 February 2021, 3:55 p.m. EST (20:55 UTC)

Science Objectives: the Perseverance rover has four science objectives that support the Mars Exploration Program's science goals.
1. Looking for habitability: identify past environments capable of supporting microbial life.
2. Seeking biosignatures: seek signs of possible past microbial life in those habitable environments, particularly in special rocks known to preserve signs over time.
3. Caching samples: collect core rock and "soil" samples and store them on the Martian surface.
4. Preparing for humans: test oxygen production from the Martian atmosphere.
Exciting shit my frens.

I'm trying to forget it is landing today until after it lands, so I'm not staring at the live youtube feed freaking out.

Ya brah I hear you. Hard to get work done when my mind is on Mars, but still, this will be fucking EPIC if it gets pulled off.

Feeling good for the NASA dudes. Tough job those guys have. One shot. They have to get it right without do overs. Very limited opportunity to fix problems. Zero if they crash. And man they were crashing into stuff like they were getting paid for it for a while there.

NASA teams have just confirmed that Perseverance is ready to execute entry, descent and landing on its own. They have now turned off the transmitter, which brings us one step closer to the highly anticipated landing.

JUST IN: Perseverance rover has safely landed on Mars. The Perseverance rover just became NASA's fifth rover to safely land on the surface of Mars after surviving the "seven minutes of terror."
This is the most sophisticated rover the agency has ever sent to the Red Planet. It will gather data and look for signs of ancient life in a crater that once contained a lake about 3.9 billion years ago.

Also, China can suck it and I hope their lander crashes in a field of burning dicks.

That means that the first Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity, also landed and is scheduled for deployment on March 19, 2021.

Incredible video of the landing from both Perseverance and Sky Crane here:
This is the realm of pure sci-fi now.

Get Ready for the First Flight of NASA’s Mars Helicopter
The experimental vehicle named Ingenuity traveled to the red planet with the Perseverance rover, which is also preparing for its main science mission.
