At this point we've all had a bizarro world experience with the surveillance state, but here's one that shook me. I was looking for a clip from the Charlie Kaufman film I'm Thinking of Ending Things.. What I got instead was a message saying "you're not alone" and a number for a hotline. Yikes.

Of course They do this to terrify and cow us, to make us aware that we're being tracked, monitored, and subjugated. Hopefully they aren't on the way here right now to kick my door in.

I googled the same thing and the first hit was a website for a crisis hotline. Maybe we’re just encountering guardrails someone programmed in to protect people?

I’ve experienced googling a vacuum cleaner (or whatever) then getting inundated with ads for the same thing. Ditching Facebook and Instagram a couple years ago cut way back on this stuff.
