The author wasn't SS. He served in the regular German Army (the Wehrmacht). IIRC he served in the Russian campaign.

I really like Sierra Nevada's new Hop Hunter IPA, because it doesn't have much of that grapefruity hop taste that so many "West Coast" style IPA's have. Also, because I love hops, but don't want to be clubbed to death by them. Maybe some people wouldn't even consider this a "true"...
