Looking at tablets due to going back to a dumbphone. Curious what you guys have worked with either at work or home. I am looking at the wifi only since I would be using them primarily at the station.

Only tablet I've got is a Kindle Fire. It's not bad but unless you're a bigtime Amazon user like me, it probably isn't what you'd be looking for.

I have my issues with the Fire. The no camera angle is somewhat problematic. I am still interested though.

I love my iPad.
Mostly because the large screen is perfect for viewing the white girl thread.

Nothing bad to say about the Motorola Xoom. I could probably get a BlueTooth keyboard and use it for all my email and web surfing, and not need a full blown computer. It even plays Flash, so all the porn works fine.

BlueTooth keyboards. Discuss. Does anyone use them for the Ipad? Sounds like a worthwhile way to dump the laptop.

I don't know if they're still available but I was always fond of a Big Chief tablet when I was a kid. Lots of paper, with those wide lines. You could really write up a storm in one of those. Check on line.

I used a nook color for a year or so. Traded it in and bought a new laptop.

I'm likely to buy an iPad3 when they come out and pair it with a Bluetooth keyboard when I'm on the road. That's really all the functionality I need when I'm in the field.

I have the case and BlueTooth keyboard made by Tylt for my iPad. It's very convenient, and now my laptop never leaves the office.
The only pain is having to charge the keyboard seperately from the iPad itself.

I have the ipad2 and am mostly happy with it. It doesn't play nice with Facebook, though. There was some kind of pissing match on a corporate level, and that's kind of a hassle. And I use a blackberry, so that diminishes the value of iCloud a little bit.
Gotta get me one of those Bluetooth keyboards, and maybe some Bluetooth speakers as well.

The iPad is great but my Kindle Fire does 8/10ths the things at 4/10ths the price.

There's nothing the Kindle Fire does better than the other tablets, aside from making Amazon purchases much easier, but the main selling point is the $200 price tag. For less than half the price of an iPad2 you get 8/10ths the functionality. For me it's fine because I'm a bigtime Amazon user, I've got a bunch of Kindle books, and all I really use the Fire for is surfing the WWW when I'm in bed and don't wanna turn on my PC. If I used it as a PC replacement I might change my mind, but for the time being it hits the mark.

I had played with other people's iPads and liked them quite a bit, but it bugged me that the thing had to be tethered to iTunes. An app developer I spoke to said the samsung galaxy was a cut above the other android tablets, and I use a lot of google stuff, and I got a very good deal, so I tried the samsung.
Overall: super nice, I'd have to say 100% as nice as the iPad, which seems to be the gold standard. Can't believe how well google maps / earth works. It's pretty far from a necessity for me, but it is super nice for killing time and while watching tv. I think with a keyboard / kickstand / case it could be a notebook replacement for me, but I don't think most people would want to use one for eight hours.
It is a little smaller than the ipad - although they both have a 10.1" diagonal, the samsung is the wider / narrower aspect ratio. I'd like a 14" or 15" tablet.
The iPad wants to be tethered to iTunes, which irritates me, so that's another plus.
It seems like the flash problem is a problem on fewer sites with the ipad these days, but it is no problem at all with android, which is important to me.
I believe that unlike the iPad you can use a dongle to attach an SD card, which is a plus. However the iPad has an HDMI out port, which might be nice. I'd rather have the ability to attach an SD card or keydrive, personally.
So far I am skeptical that app availability will be a problem versus the ipad. Google cloud print is probably the first one I'd add.
Overall I'd probably pick this over the ipad even if it wasn't cheaper.

Still looking at different options. Leaning towards the Fire due to cost and it hits most of my wants.
I would mainly be using this on my 24's at work and at school. Wifi is available at both places and I have no desire to pay for a data plan.
Things that it would be used for:
*IGX
*Web Browsing for studying & fun
*Netflix
*Productivity (emails and calendars)
*Reading
*Ability to put non-Amazon stuff on there.....torrents etc.
The Kindle Fire hits all that for $200.

I have the ASUS
Eee Pad Transformer, basically, the Samsung Galaxy 10.1, Motorola Xoom, Toshiba Thrive and this one use the same size display and same nVidia Tegra 2 dual core CPU.
What I like most about this tablet are
(1) the price. $349 from
Microcenter - that's $150 less than a wifi 16gb iPad
(2) The attachable keyboard. Instead of a blue tooth keyboard this one does cost a bit more, but it doubles battery life, and works better in a lap or on a table when typing than the folding covers of other tablets..t
(3) Tablet has HDMI out port, and can take micro SD cards (for use when traveling) - add the dock/keyboard and you get 2 usb ports (which can use a mouse) and a SD card slot. Lots of expandability. I put movies on micro sd and watch them while flying, or plug into a TV at the hotel.
What I don't like is the plasticy feel of the back, but it's not a deal breaker for me.
Asus has already started shipping the quad core version - the Transformer Prime.

I see this has something called Polaris Office. Can you use Word and edit PowerPoint presentations with this? How about Outlook?

Business wise this all comes down to function and what you're company does.
IMO- a tablet is a waste of time if you're chained to a desk and or your company hasn't developed apps for stream lining work flow or work processes. Then it's nothing but a fun way to fuck off playing games, watching movies, listening to music, reading books, and cruising the internet. In this case, either the Kindle fire or the color nook will do just fine.
However, if you aren't chained to a desk, you are out and about during working hours, and the tablet is a portal for accessing and entering company information, a tablet is a great productivity tool. I this case, nothing beats an ipad.

There's only three things I need access to in the field, and none of them require lugging a laptop around, a tablet would be ideal: email, SAP, and goofing off.
